Overview

Set in Cape Town’s Victoria & Alfred Waterfront district is the Commodore Hotel. This elegant, sophisticated hotel is well located for those looking to visit the city. Not only are there plenty of local attractions and amenities within walking distance, many of the city’s other top sights are within easy reach. The hotel offers views not only of the harbour area, but also of the iconic Table Mountain, a flat-topped mountain that’s the city’s main landmark, and the nearby Robben Island, which once functioned as a prison island; in fact, three of the island’s former inmates went on to become presidents of South Africa. The purpose of the Commodore Hotel is to offer visitors a convenient and well appointed base from which they can explore the city at their own leisure.

When making a booking here, there are around half a dozen room categories to choose from. These range from the Basic Twin to the Imperial King Suite. All of the rooms here are well presented and have a stylish dark blue and white colour scheme. They come with all the modern conveniences guests need for a comfortable stay, such as high-quality bedding and linen, tea and coffee making facilities, a TV with cable channels and a minibar. Bathrooms are en-suite and come with either a walk-in shower or a bathtub/shower combination. There’s also a sizable private balcony that offers stunning views of the area. Each of the rooms here is soundproofed and has its own air conditioning system.

The Clipper Restaurant is the hotel’s main dining venue. Three meals a day are served at this restaurant, which has a nautical theme to it and is quite upmarket in its appearance. Special diets can be accommodate and packed lunches can be arranged with reasonable notice. Sundowners are served in the hotel’s courtyard area, which has neatly presented gardens and even a koi pond. Drinks are also served at the spacious Admiralty Bar, while the Lounge offers lighter meals and snacks. There’s an outdoor swimming pool complete with plenty of sun loungers and a pool bar serving drinks and light snacks. Other on-site facilities for guests to make use of include the well equipped gym and the spa, which offers a range of treatments and pampering sessions.

There’s also a transfer and activity desk, where tours and day trips can be arranged from. Some of the many attractions that can be visited include Table Mountain, the South African Museum, Green Market Square and the Castle of Good Hope, among many others. Cape Town Stadium is within walking distance, as are a rocky beach, an aquarium and a metro station that provides convenient transport links to many places throughout the city. Children are welcome here and there's a babysitting service available.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
