Overview

Colona Castle is a luxury boutique hotel perched on a mountainside with breathtaking views of lakes, beaches and the Atlantic Ocean. It’s a delightful retreat with a Mediterranean feel just 25 minutes' drive away from Cape Town’s international airport and city centre. The property comprises eight bedroom suites along with a swimming pool, library, gym and restaurant. We recommend visiting between late January and early April, at the tail end of the dry months. Note, however, that Cape Town does enjoy a temperate climate with warm, dry conditions from October all the way through to April.

There are three types of bedroom at the hotel ranging from Full Luxury Suites featuring private balconies and spectacular views, to Full Executive Suites and Superior Suites. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms, a verandah, and satellite TV, and a select number of rooms have superb views spanning from Table Mountain across Zandvlei Lake, the Cape Peninsula and False Bay. The luxurious amenities include a library, pool, gym, complimentary internet access, and pretty balconies and gardens. A private butler service and massage and spa treatments are available upon request.

Colona Castle is just a few minutes’ drive away from four world-class golf courses, and the hotel can also arrange visits to the Constantia wine estate or performances at the local theatre. There are plenty of trails to explore on the Drakenstein Mountain Reserve where baboons and a variety of rare birds can be seen, and the property also offers bikes for hire. The hotel is not far from the unspoiled coastline of False Bay where whale and dolphin-watching boat trips are available, along with shark ‘eco-tours’ and penguin spotting excursions.

Further into Cape Town, guests can enjoy seeing famous landmarks and visiting the historical fishing village of Kalk Bay and the wetlands of the Rondevlei Nature Reserve to see the hippos and rich birdlife. Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was famously imprisoned for 20 years, also makes for a fascinating historical visit.

Colona Castle welcomes families. There’s a babysitting service in the evenings and most of the activities available in the area are suitable for children of all ages, although age restrictions on certain activities, such as water sports, are to be expected.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
