EnquirePongwe Beach Hotel is a real favourite, with a fantastic location, just the right level of comfort, reasonable rates and great service. Availability can be tight, but when available, Pongwe is always a strong choice.
Guest accommodation at Pongwe Beach Hotel consists of 13 beachfront cottages, four sea-view suites with plunge pools, and three garden cottages. All feature a Moroccan style en-suite bathroom and a private terrace.
Food here is fantastic. Breakfast is served on the private terraces, while lunch and dinner are served in a large palm-thatched pavilion overlooking the beach. Once a week, a local jambo trio entertains guests with music during dinner to provide a complimentary cultural dining experience.
Activities at Pongwe Beach Hotel are mostly water-based. Guests can kayak over the bay area, relax in the hotel’s infinity pools, or even take a dip in the ocean themselves. Boat trips are also available, and guests can sail dhows or take local fishing trips for marlin, barracuda, and king fish on ngalawa (local fishing boats). Other activities include motorbike trips into Stone Town and spice tours. Or, guests can decide to sit back and relax in the hammocks strung between palms along the beach. Snorkelling is possible on the reef, but currents can be strong, so is suitable for stronger swimmers only.
This is a brilliant place for those who want seclusion, but also who want some fun and games, which makes it a great spot for a family getaway. Whilst there are no special activities for children, they should enjoy themselves along the beach and in the waters, as many of the activities are suitable for all ages. Families with older children can go snorkelling around the Pongwe Reef and between dives play some beach games. Ask staff for a game of Bao, which is a popular board game in Zanzibar that they will be happy to explain and challenge guests to play. Children of all ages are welcome, but there are no babysitting facilities and no children’s play area. Cots and extra beds are available for families with children of all ages.
It was FANTASTIC! Beautifully organised, everything worked like clockwork. We agreed that we had the best support team ever (and we have experience) - all delightful, very professional and nothing was too much bother.
It clearly couldn't have been a better route, such a wonderful mix of landscapes. And plenty of acclimatisation time. Nonetheless, I was glad of my summit oxygen.
Kit excellent. Double good mattresses made for most comfortable trek camping ever. Tents v good. Mess tent pretty windproof, which was vital for enjoyment. Best camp loo ever!
My favourite day was Shira Cathedral. Amazing.

Hi Lisa,
The safari trip was excellent! The stay, the food and the people were all very nice. We were happy to have Ryan and Stanley as our game drive guides they brought us up close to the animals and Ryan gave very good information throughout.
Would definitely recommend to friends who are interested in safaris :)
Also, thanks much for your help, particularly keeping the room for my Brother and his wife they’ve enjoyed the safari very much too!
Best regards,

We had a fantastic time and all the arrangements worked perfectly.
We were very impressed with the quality and service levels of all 4 locations visited and it was truly a holiday of a lifetime.
Thank you to you and to Lisa for giving us this experience.
Particular highlights for us – really the whole experience, but of particular impact:
Breathtaking scenery at Cathedral Peak Hotel
Rhino Ridge game drives incredible, thanks to guide (we had their head guide, Hala, who’s knowledge, enthusiasm, kindness, interaction, ability to spot wildlife was out of this world)
Luxury of Rhino Ridge (shower, food, views, service)
Immersion in nature, torch lit meal on last night and beach trip at Kosi Forest Lodge
Level of service, quality of food throughout
