EnquireZanzibar Pearl Boutique (previously Matemwe Beach Village) is located on the North East coast of Zanzibar Island, this small friendly beach guest house is a lovely good value option offering long white sand beaches, blue waters, swaying palms and a refreshingly relaxed low key atmosphere. Neighbours include a traditional fishing village and a couple of low key lodges. Guests can swim in the pool or Ocean, take a sailing trip in the ngalwa, but the big draw of this location it the world famous Mnemba Atoll which offers exceptional snorkelling and diving. There is a full 5 star IDC dive school on site offering a full range of services and snorkelling trips.
Zanzibar Pearl Boutique has a lovely relaxed vibe with plenty of corners and spots to take it easy in, from the coffee corner, the cushion lounge, the dhow lounge and the pool bar as well as shady beach bandas. The main area consists of reception, restaurant, swimming pool and raised lounging area with floor cushions, low tables, books and games.
In total, there are 26 rooms & suites, not all of which have a sea view. The seventeen simple but comfortable standard rooms are all en-suite with hot water and fans. Set back from the beach, there are five Oyster Villas which are great for smaller families. These have a double bed, a single bed under the stairs and a barazza bed for small children. These suites also have an upstairs verandah, the perfect place to sit out an relax once the children have gone to sleep. Please note the Oyster Villas have open staircases and parents must be prepared to accept the risk this entails, especially with small children. For those wanting to spoil themselves or honeymooners, the Pearl Villa is a standalone unit away from the rest of the lodge. A real slice of luxury, it has its own private plunge pool and two dedicated staff members.
We had such a good holiday. You did a fantastic job!
The house in Marrakesh was ridiculous. We effectively had it to ourselves. The accommodation was borderline palatial.
I actually think that the time we had in Marrakesh was sufficient. We could potentially have done a day by a pool but I think we’d done enough souk-ing by the end of Day Two.
The hotel in the mountains was a shade more rustic than I was expecting, but all great fun. Stunning views. The guide / mule / cook team were excellent and our guide (Hassan) tailored the treks to our capabilities well. He was superb, and really made an effort with the kids. The second and third day of trekking were particularly good. Such an adventure for the kids.
All the logistics worked seamlessly. Every aspect went like clockwork. Top marks. The advice on tipping was also much appreciated (I hate thinking that I’m getting mugged off or am potentially not giving enough…).
From my seven-year-old son:
I thought it was GREAT. The food was amazing and the culture was very interesting. My favourite bit was scrambling up rocks in the Atlas Mountains.
In retrospect, I’d probably do the trip in reverse. Flopping on the roof terrace after the rigours of the mountains would have been even more satisfying.

We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths. Will be a trip we remember forever
