  • Four Day Atlas Valleys & Villages Trek

  • Three nights in a boutique riad in the heart of Marrakech's Medina

Upon arrival, you'll be whisked out to the Atlas Mountains, an hour's drive through the Marrakech plains and then up winding mountain roads to the beautiful Ouirgane Valley. Your first night is in a beautiful traditional lodge set amidst olive groves with fantastic Mountain views.

Our trekking team will meet you after breakfast and after you've loaded the mules you'll set off on a lovely circular 4 day route which takes you from the Ouirgane Valley through the beautiful Azzadene Valley, remote Dkn't Valley, Imlil Valley and Imnane Valley passing countless traditional Berver Villages and with some beautiful high passes along the way. On trek you will be accompanied by a local English speaking guide, cook and mules. Beautiful lunches are prepared on the trail and all you need to carry is your day pack with water for the day and camera.

After your trek, you'll be transferred to Marrakech and a beautiful small riad in the heart of Marrakech's Medina. This is the perfect base from which to explore the souks, palaces and squares of the City, with the indulgent retreat of your riad always on hand to escape the madness.

This itinerary can be customised, we recommend this four day route as it passes through some of the most remote and beautiful valleys in the High Atlas region with some cracking high passes along the way. In these remote valleys, accommodation is necessarily basic (you will either be camping or staying in village gites), if you prefer somewhere more comfortable, we can offer our upgraded 4 day valleys and villages trek (3-4* equivalent mountain lodges with ensuite rooms) which follows a different, less remote route, for an additional £165 per person. Likewise, if you are looking at a different length of trek or want to climb Toubkal, we can swap in any of our other 2-6 day Valleys & Villages or Toubkal treks, just ask.

You will be met at the airport and transferred to your accommodation in the Atlas Mountains.

In the evening, you might want to enjoy dinner in one of the restaurants over-looking the main square, or perhaps ask your host to book you a table at the atmospheric Foundouk restaurant, serving up delicious French & Moroccan fusion food. Optional additional activities in Marrakech include cycle tours in the Palmerie, the excellent cooking classes at La Maison Arabe and a private tailormade food and culture tour of the Jemaa el Fna

When is best?

This trek is available year round. Spring and Autumn are the peak times, when temperatures are optimal. However each season has its benefits, the winter months in particular can be wonderful with snow on the mountain tops and very quiet trails. Summer months can be hot, but certainly cooler in the Mountains, in July and August for example you'll be walking in temperatures around 25 degrees Celsius.

Is it for me?

This trek is suitable for anyone of reasonable fitness levels. It is a particularly good choice for those interested in trekking in Morocco from the months of November through to April when high altitude snows make crampons and ice axes necessary on Toubkal.

  • Service rating : I would definitely use Tourdust again. After a little difficulty in actually speaking to someone when I initially made contact by telephone (no one available when I called and no one called back as promised), I found Jayne and Ben very helpful and responsive.
We booked a trek in the Atlas mountains followed by three nights in Marrakech and had a great time. The transfers worked really well and we were very well looked after at Riad Tzara in Marrakech. It was a little disappointing to be told on the first morning of the trek that the planned route had changed. We totally understand that itineraries are weather-dependent but this could have perhaps been discussed earlier. The suggested revised route looked less remote and therefore we were keen to stick to the original if possible. This was agreed in the end and we took less luggage/had packed lunches which was absolutely fine. Ibrahim, our guide, was great and we were well fed. The accommodation was basic but we were prepared for that. I'd definitely advise future clients to take four season sleeping bags in the winter (we travelled in early February). The hiking was reasonably tough (perhaps partly because of the snow which was quite deep in places) but the scenery was spectacular.
Product : Excellent combination of trek and city break.

  • The trek was fab, really enjoyed it! Was definitely a challenge but one worth doing. Our Guide Mohammed was excellent, took care of our needs, patient and went at a suitable pace for us. Ali, the muleteer and cook made us the most remarkable dishes and such large quantities, we felt bad for leaving so much food.....was enough for six people or more.

The refuges provided us a great place to stay....the first one was very quiet only another couple staying there, whilst the next was much busier and was a fab way to meet new people.

We were really pleased we made it to the summit, it felt like a great achievement.

I don’t think I would change any part of it.

Thank you, to you and your partners in Morrcco, will recommend you to anyone who wishes to follow in my footsteps.

  • The walking in the mountains was a fantastic experience, helped by our perfect guide Ibrahim. He was intelligent, kind, cheerful and looked after us very well. He could answer all our questions on flora, fauna, geology, history and local culture. He walked at a steady phase that suited all and made sure everyone was happy. We could not have asked for more.
Our favourite place to stay was the Azzaden trekking lodge where we were welcomed warmly with slippers, dates, milk and a hand wash. The food was excellent and the breakfast was very impressive. The hospitality of Mohamed was second to none. The view from the balcony was amazing and when it got dark the stars came out in their millions. ( we did however not manage to find out in which bed Daniel Craig had slept).
When we reached Kasbah Toubkal the weather had turned cold and wet so we could not enjoy the roof terrace and the outdoor area.
Riad Tzara was excellent and Naima, Khadija, Abdul and Mohamed looked after our every need. We had dinner one night on the roof of Dar Hanane where the view over the city was great. We also liked the cozy roof terrace in Riad Tzara where the perfect temperature was in the afternoon after escaping from the noises and fumes of the Medina.
