Classic Atlas Valleys & Villages Trek

Strongly recommended year round, the Atlas valleys and villages trekking options are for those not intent on climbing Toubkal. They offer, in our opinion, the best mountain scenery and Berber villages within the Imlil and Toubkal National Park area. And because they stay below the snowline, they are accessible in the winter to all regardless of experience.

Itinerary

Overview

The area of the Atlas Mountains close to Marrakech offers some of the best trekking in the world. It offers stunning mountain scenery, snow-capped mountains topping over 4,000m, traditional earth built Berber Villages and a great trekking infrastructure. Although many people want to climb Mount Toubkal (Morocco’s highest peak), the direct route from the main trailhead at Imlil doesn’t give a lot of exposure to the diversity of mountain scenery and Berber Villages that the Atlas Mountains can offer. In that regard these treks more than surpass the main Toubkal route. All the routes offered pass through the beautiful Azzaden Valley (at the head of which sits snow-capped Toubkal and its sister mountains) and offer an opportunity to walk through some characterful Berber Villages.

Accommodation on trek is in basic village Gites (guesthouses) or camping (in the warmer months). For those looking for something more comfortable, we offer our upgraded comfort treks staying in good quality lodges with character and private ensuite rooms.

This trek is available to be booked independently (including transfers from Marrakech) or we can put together a full itinerary and quote to combine your trek with any of Marrakech, Essaouira, The Atlantic Coast and Sahara Desert.

Is it for me?

This trek is suitable for anyone of reasonable fitness levels. It is a particularly good choice for those interested in trekking in Morocco from the months of November through to April when high altitude snows make crampons and ice axes necessary on Toubkal.

  • Service rating : Tourdust organised absolutely everything for our 4 day trek in the Atlas mountains. It was all very professional and worked very smoothly. This was our first trek and we loved every minute of it. Our guide Mustafa could not have been more friendly and fun! Abdulla our chef always managed to rustle up delicious food whenever we ate. Already planning our next one!

  • Service rating : The hike itself was very nice with a friendly local guide. We recieved escellent customer care from Tourdust and the whole ordeal of booking and transport was for us utterly hassle free. The one issue we had was dealt with in a hasty and professional manner.
Product : BEutiful scenery but very basic accomodation which one needs to be aware of.

  • Service rating : We travel to enjoy the sites and sounds, the food and the culture so we like to leave all the planning and organizing to a good tour company and from our first interaction I knew we had found a really great one.

Jayne promptly answered all our questions and easily adjusted the standard offering to accommodate our specific schedule. From there on everything worked like clockwork and exactly as promised exceeding our every expectation. Payment was simple, and the thoughtful, well-documented pre-travel package of information, guidance, tips and suggestions that accompanied the booking confirmation was excellent.

On arrival in Marrakech we were met at the airport right on time where the driver kindly provided water, local treats and a comfortable drive to our first night's accommodations which was comfortable and warm and the food excellent.

Along the way all accommodation were exactly as described and equally comfortable and accommodating.

We were met as promised on the first morning by our guide who was the perfect host for our 4 day trek: helpful, friendly and accommodating without being in any way pushy or crowding and happy to answer any and all questions in perfect English. The stunning scenery and fascinating villages made for perfect trekking and each day was well-timed and challenging without being too strenuous, not too short and not too long.

And then there was the food along the way! the cook ingeniously produced delicious, nutritious, hearty meals every morning and every evening in the kitchen of the gites where we stayed and somehow, amazingly, out in the open in the beautiful spots where every day we had lunch - seriously good food, well beyond our expectations for a mountain trek.

Transport to Marrakech was smooth and simple and our stay there excellent. the hotel was exactly as promised: beautiful and comfortable and charming with the most welcoming and accommodating staff one could possibly imagine.

Tourdust is now #1 on our list for any future trekking vacations we have planned for any of the places served.
Product : Excellent value for money. Simple, easy payment and plenty of useful guidance provided
