Overview

Zanzibar White Sand Villas is a small and understated 11 villa luxury resort located on Paje Beach on the East Coast of Zanzibar offering stunning villas with private spaces and pools.

The resort consists of 11 villas each with one, two or five bedrooms, private outside space and small swimming pool. There are also four Cinnamon rooms which are set up as more traditional hotel rooms without the private outside space or swimming pool. The rooms and villas have a contemporary yet understated Scandinavian themed design.

Amenities include a swimming pool, restaurant, bars, spa, a children’s playground and a luxury kite surfing centre (Paje Beach is a kite surfing hot spot between June 15th to September 15th and from December 15th to March 15th). The resort can organise various tours including dhow snorkelling trips, dolphin watching and Stone Town. Scuba Diving is available at the Breezes Beach Club Rising Sun Dive Centre 10 minutes drive North up the Coast. The resort is family owned but is affiliated to the prestige Relais & Chateaux collection.

As with all resorts on the East Coast (and the South and West Coasts), there is a large tidal range and at low tide the Ocean drops back out to the coral reef which is around 1km offshore, making ocean swimming impossible at low tide. The advantage is that the water tends to be crystal clear and fabulous for bathing at mid - high tide. And as with all of Zanzibar, the beach here is public. Snorkelling is possible, but only on a boat trip.

Zanzibar White Sand Villas will appeal to families as they have the two bedroom family units, but please do note, the bedrooms are spread over two floors and in our opinion are not suitable for families with younger children who could climb between the railings on the rustic style stair banister and balcony.

  • We had such a good holiday. You did a fantastic job!

The house in Marrakesh was ridiculous. We effectively had it to ourselves. The accommodation was borderline palatial.

I actually think that the time we had in Marrakesh was sufficient. We could potentially have done a day by a pool but I think we’d done enough souk-ing by the end of Day Two.

The hotel in the mountains was a shade more rustic than I was expecting, but all great fun. Stunning views. The guide / mule / cook team were excellent and our guide (Hassan) tailored the treks to our capabilities well. He was superb, and really made an effort with the kids. The second and third day of trekking were particularly good. Such an adventure for the kids.

All the logistics worked seamlessly. Every aspect went like clockwork. Top marks. The advice on tipping was also much appreciated (I hate thinking that I’m getting mugged off or am potentially not giving enough…).

    From my seven-year-old son:

I thought it was GREAT. The food was amazing and the culture was very interesting. My favourite bit was scrambling up rocks in the Atlas Mountains.

In retrospect, I’d probably do the trip in reverse. Flopping on the roof terrace after the rigours of the mountains would have been even more satisfying.

  • We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths.

Will be a trip we remember forever
