Overview

The Mushara Collection consists of four well-appointed, private accommodation options all a short distance from Etosha National Park in northern Namibia. The first of these to open was Mushara Lodge, a lovely property with a traditional, ‘down to earth’ feel which lies just 8 km from the park’s eastern Von Lindequist Gate and makes for an ideal place to stay for anyone looking to explore the renowned national park either with a guide or independently.

The pristine accommodation comprises ten spacious double-bed chalets that are carefully arranged around the swimming pool. In addition, there are two single rooms for solo travellers, a triple room for larger groups and a family house designed specifically to comfortably accommodate parents travelling with children. All rooms have plenty of space and air conditioning, with mosquito nets provided for all beds. Bathrooms are en-suite and come with a shower; the triple room and family house also have a separate bathtub in addition to the shower. In-room amenities include a safe, a minibar and tea and coffee making facilities.

The key draw to Mushara Lodge is the game drives into the wildlife-rich Etosha National Park. The park was established back in 1907 and covers an area of 22,270 km², with more than 550 species calling it home. It remains very well protected to this day and is highly rated for its wildlife viewing opportunities. When out on game drives, animals such as giraffes, wildebeest, zebras, impalas, elephants and lions can often be seen. The huge salt pan in the park is also a fascinating central feature - spanning an area of 4,731 km², it’s the largest in all of Africa and a wonderful sight to behold.

When not out exploring, there are plenty of good facilities to make use of. There’s a public lounge with ample space for relaxation and a cosy fire place, as well as the small but well-stocked library, a shop selling souvenirs and sundries, and a bar with an impressive collection of international wines. Meals are served in the dining area with a focus on local dishes and both indoor and outdoor dining are possible. There’s also the pool, which is of a good size and is surrounded by well landscaped greenery, with plenty of loungers too.

The lodge actively welcomes children of all ages, with those aged three and under able to stay free of charge. Additional cots are available on request and there’s a play area at the family house to keep youngsters entertained. While the lodge itself is fenced, the pool is not, so parents are reminded to keep children under constant adult supervision.

  • I was also just about to email you to thank you and the team for arranging yet again, another wonderful experience.

Mount Kenya was spectacular and wild - I think I prefer it to Kili in many ways. The entire support team was professional, friendly and all round fantastic in making sure that we were safe, well fed and well looked after. In particular, we would commend Peter the guide as well as Paul one of the porters who doubled-up as his deputy on summit day. Our route was often shrouded in mist and rain that rapidly gathered in the valleys and moorlands, and we were very impressed at how Peter managed to navigate us safely through all of that notwithstanding. In addition, we loved learning about the history of Mount Kenya from him in the evenings. And ofcourse, I was blown away by the lovely birthday surprise at the end complete with balloons and a delicious cake that had journeyed with us from day 1. One thing we might recommend because of the sudden change in weather (it would sometimes get extremely cold and wet) is for the equipment list to be a little bit more detailed in terms of its recommendations e.g. layers to be moisture-wicking, walking boots be waterproof, doubling up on socks to avoid blisters etc.

El Karama is a beautiful conservancy and the lodge a true labour of love. Great hospitality in a relaxed environment. Delicious, fresh food. We enjoyed the drives, even if we didn't see much wildlife as the heavens opened on us for the last two outings. However, since it was very much geared towards families, I am not sure if I would stay again without kids. That said, I think it was perfect for a 3d/2n stay post mountain, and a much better choice than flying to the masai mara given the limited time we had.

Our transits were smooth. Samuel the driver was always on time, drove safely and kept the vehicle clean.

So it was a brilliant experience and one which I certainly will cherish for some time to come. It was great to work with you for a third time, and I certainly hope it won't be the last

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • We had the most amazing time. It exceeded all my hopes of what the trip would be. The guides, the hotels - everything was of such a wonderful quality. Thank you for organizing everything. I will absolutely recommend Tourdust and use you again.
