Overview

Mokuti Etosha Lodge is a large property located just a few minutes’ drive from the eastern Von Lindequist Gate of Etosha National Park, northern Namibia. This popular park is rich in wildlife, providing excellent opportunities to observe the big four (lion, leopard, elephant, and rhino), along with zebra, giraffe, springbok, oryx, and an abundance of bird species.

Set within large grounds, this resort-like lodge boasts a wealth of facilities, yet retains a friendly and efficient service. The thatched buildings sit amidst lush gardens, through which harmless bontebok wander. The spacious main areas are bright and tastefully decorated, and comprise a business centre, curio shop, and comfortable lounge. The Etambi Pool Bar is open for light snacks throughout the day, whilst the Marula Bar provides cocktails during high season. Dining options range from home-style meals in the Tambuti dining room, to traditional Namibian Braai served al fresco within the reed Boma. For anyone seeking a more intimate experience, bush breakfasts or private dining amongst the trees can be arranged. With two large pools, a games room, flood-lit tennis courts and a spa, there is no shortage of activities to engage in at this enormous facility.

The lodge's 108 rooms spread outwards from the central area, and, as such, accommodation at the furthest reaches is a few minutes’ walk away. Although most of the paths are sufficiently lit, guests may wish to bring a head torch for the less illuminated walkways at the outer reaches. There are 82 modest but comfortable standard rooms set beneath thatch roofs. Most of these are twin formation, and all have ensuite bathrooms. In addition, there 8 luxury rooms housing king-sized beds, and an open-plan lounge featuring a sofa bed. Recently refurbished, the décor is clean and modern, with air conditioning, satellite TV, mini-fridge, safe, free WiFi, a tea and coffee station, telephone, and hair-dryer. Laundry is available at additional cost.

Although the extensive facilities at the lodge provide ample opportunities for entertainment and relaxation, its exclusive proximity to Etosha National Park is the real draw. Open-vehicle drives lasting a morning, afternoon, or a whole day are professionally guided, and promise amazing wildlife encounters and impressive game-viewing. Those with younger children should also take advantage of the Ontouka Reptile Park on site at Mokuti, with its illuminating talks on resident snakes, crocodiles, and turtles. Feeding sessions are a highlight! For those wishing to explore the surrounding landscape on foot, a network of hiking trails begin from the lodge.

Mokuti is well suited to families, with no charge for children under 6 years of age. There is the option for up to 2 children to occupy sofa beds in the open-plan lounges of the ‘luxury’ rooms, or for those families requiring more privacy, the eight ‘luxury family’ rooms have a separate bedroom and lounge housing sofa beds and a shared bathroom. The plentiful facilities ensure a variety of activity and entertainment options for younger family members; from the children's splash pool and play area, to the games room and tennis courts for older children. Cots and high chairs are available, as well as a babysitting service. Although recommended for any age, it is essential that parents are vigilant of their children's whereabouts at all times, as the area is home an abundance of wildlife.

Mokuti Etosha Lodge is a large and somewhat commercial option for those seeking the comfort and entertainment of a facility-rich resort, along with convenient ease of access to northern Namibia's impressive scenery and wildlife.

  • Trip was great and all the arrangements were excellent so thank you for all the help!

Drivers and transfers were all good - on time and very good service on each trip.

Accommodation was lovely - Douar Samra was amazing (weather could have been better but lovely regardless). Riad in Marrakesh was also great!

All in all a great trip and we loved the variety of the mountains, Marrakesh and the coast.

    Thanks you once again!

  • I was also just about to email you to thank you and the team for arranging yet again, another wonderful experience.

Mount Kenya was spectacular and wild - I think I prefer it to Kili in many ways. The entire support team was professional, friendly and all round fantastic in making sure that we were safe, well fed and well looked after. In particular, we would commend Peter the guide as well as Paul one of the porters who doubled-up as his deputy on summit day. Our route was often shrouded in mist and rain that rapidly gathered in the valleys and moorlands, and we were very impressed at how Peter managed to navigate us safely through all of that notwithstanding. In addition, we loved learning about the history of Mount Kenya from him in the evenings. And ofcourse, I was blown away by the lovely birthday surprise at the end complete with balloons and a delicious cake that had journeyed with us from day 1. One thing we might recommend because of the sudden change in weather (it would sometimes get extremely cold and wet) is for the equipment list to be a little bit more detailed in terms of its recommendations e.g. layers to be moisture-wicking, walking boots be waterproof, doubling up on socks to avoid blisters etc.

El Karama is a beautiful conservancy and the lodge a true labour of love. Great hospitality in a relaxed environment. Delicious, fresh food. We enjoyed the drives, even if we didn't see much wildlife as the heavens opened on us for the last two outings. However, since it was very much geared towards families, I am not sure if I would stay again without kids. That said, I think it was perfect for a 3d/2n stay post mountain, and a much better choice than flying to the masai mara given the limited time we had.

Our transits were smooth. Samuel the driver was always on time, drove safely and kept the vehicle clean.

So it was a brilliant experience and one which I certainly will cherish for some time to come. It was great to work with you for a third time, and I certainly hope it won't be the last

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”
