Overview

Anantara Dhigu is a blissful tropical resort set on Dhigufinolhu Island in the Maldives’ South Male Atoll. Dhigu has a serene, laid-back feel, although there are plenty of activities on offer for those who want to keep busy, including a lovely swimming lagoon as well as a large pool. It’s one of several dozen resorts in the Anantara chain which specialises in luxury holidays in exotic locations all around the world, and it takes just over half an hour to reach the resort by speedboat transfer from Velana International Airport in Male.

There are a total of 110 beachside villas and over-water suites, many of which come with a private plunge pool. All accommodation at the resort is designed to offer plenty of space and give guests the feeling that they’re stepping into a home away from home. Villas and suites are well presented and tastefully decorated, with a range of convenient amenities. Some of these include a mini bar, a flat-screen satellite TV, tea and coffee making facilities and a private outdoor lounge area - some types of accommodation also have a private open-air bathroom with separate bathtub and shower. Floor-to-ceiling windows enable guests to make the most of the gorgeous views of the Indian Ocean.

There’s a good selection of dining options available. ‘Fushi Café’ offers buffet-style dining with international and Maldivian dishes, while ‘Sea. Fire. Salt’ offers fusion-style seafood and steaks. In contrast, 'Terrazzo' serves delicious Italian cuisine. There are various meal plans available and guests can try out restaurants at the nearby sister resort Anantara Veli, although note that the Veli resort is adults only.

Lots of watersports and water-based activities are available, such as waterskiing, windsurfing, snorkelling, diving and even sunset cruises. Trips to Male enable guests to explore the Maldives’ capital and excursions to delightful nearby islands are also possible. Those after a more laidback time can book a treatment or two at the soothing Anantara Spa, whose suites are all perched over the island’s crystal-clear lagoon.

The resort caters well for children. The kids club accepts children from as young as three and offers a broad menu of age-appropriate and imaginative activities and entertainment throughout the day, some of which take place in air-conditioned play spaces. Surfing and freediving lessons are available, and there’s a resident marine biologist to teach children all about the local coral and marine life. Children under the age of three can join in providing they’re accompanied by an adult or babysitter – note that the resort’s babysitting service is available for an extra fee and must be booked in advance. The 'Sunset Villas' can house two adults and up to three children, while older families might prefer the 'Two Bedroom Family Villas' which comprise two suites connected via a sun deck. Parents are reminded to keep children under adult supervision at all times.

  • We had such a good holiday. You did a fantastic job!

The house in Marrakesh was ridiculous. We effectively had it to ourselves. The accommodation was borderline palatial.

I actually think that the time we had in Marrakesh was sufficient. We could potentially have done a day by a pool but I think we’d done enough souk-ing by the end of Day Two.

The hotel in the mountains was a shade more rustic than I was expecting, but all great fun. Stunning views. The guide / mule / cook team were excellent and our guide (Hassan) tailored the treks to our capabilities well. He was superb, and really made an effort with the kids. The second and third day of trekking were particularly good. Such an adventure for the kids.

All the logistics worked seamlessly. Every aspect went like clockwork. Top marks. The advice on tipping was also much appreciated (I hate thinking that I’m getting mugged off or am potentially not giving enough…).

    From my seven-year-old son:

I thought it was GREAT. The food was amazing and the culture was very interesting. My favourite bit was scrambling up rocks in the Atlas Mountains.

In retrospect, I’d probably do the trip in reverse. Flopping on the roof terrace after the rigours of the mountains would have been even more satisfying.

  • We just wanted to thank you for an absolutely amazing holiday. Everything went exactly to plan and we were blown away with the quality of the guides, transport and accommodation. The itinerary was perfect for our family with a great mix of guided and free days and the different destinations complemented each other well. We will definitely be using Tourdust again for our next trip! Particular highlights were the Ha Long Bay cruise, Hanoi, and the morning cycle tour in Siam Reap
