Overview

The Victoria Falls Hotel is a prestigious colonial establishment situated in the town of Victoria Falls, northwest Zimbabwe. Built in 1904, this historic hotel from the Meikles and African Sun portfolios offers 161 rooms, a spa, tennis courts, and a large swimming pool, all housed in beautiful gardens with stunning views of the iconic Victoria Falls. A ten minute walk through verdant grounds brings guests to a private entrance with exclusive access to the falls.

The hotel’s communal areas comprise an elegant Edwardian lounge, and a formal dining room offering a la carte dinners and dancing to live music. Note that a smart casual dress code applies. The thatched, alfresco Jungle Junction has a laid back atmosphere, serving buffet style, African cuisine, along with nightly entertainment. Light meals and afternoon teas are available on the hotel terrace, which has splendid views of the majestic falls. The hotel’s cocktail bar is ideal for sundowners, whilst the bar beside the large swimming pool serves drinks and snacks. Further guest facilities include a gym, spa, gift shop, and hair salon, plus a library, and an internet lounge. Art lovers will enjoy the hotel’s contemporary sculpture exhibition and art gallery.

Activities available locally include canoeing, golf, and horse riding, whilst thrill seekers can partake in bungee jumping, white water rafting, and abseiling. Not to be missed is a breath-taking helicopter flight over Victoria Falls, at their most impressive from April to June. Back at the hotel, guests can enjoy tennis or a gym workout, relax in the pool, or indulge in a spot of pampering at the spa.

Accommodation comprises 161 rooms and suites, all with complimentary Wi-Fi, air conditioning, minibar, hot drink facilities, and 24 hour room service. Several rooms have wonderful views of the Victoria Falls Bridge. Options range from the modestly sized standard rooms, which have twin or double beds and an ensuite bath with overhead shower, to deluxe rooms, which feature a larger bathroom. The stables deluxe rooms are larger still, boasting bathrooms with twin showers and a freestanding bath tub. The Honeymoon Suites feature romantic four poster beds and are ideal for couples, whilst the spacious Executive Suites have a separate bedroom and lounge, a luxurious bathroom, and a walk-in closet. Finally, the Royal Suite offers two interconnecting bedrooms and a separate lounge, plus a private balcony, and butler service.

Children are extremely welcome at the hotel. Guests under two years of age stay free of charge, and discounts are offered for under 12s. A number of interconnecting rooms are available, which are ideal for families. Cots are available upon request, and babysitting can be arranged.

  • I was also just about to email you to thank you and the team for arranging yet again, another wonderful experience.

Mount Kenya was spectacular and wild - I think I prefer it to Kili in many ways. The entire support team was professional, friendly and all round fantastic in making sure that we were safe, well fed and well looked after. In particular, we would commend Peter the guide as well as Paul one of the porters who doubled-up as his deputy on summit day. Our route was often shrouded in mist and rain that rapidly gathered in the valleys and moorlands, and we were very impressed at how Peter managed to navigate us safely through all of that notwithstanding. In addition, we loved learning about the history of Mount Kenya from him in the evenings. And ofcourse, I was blown away by the lovely birthday surprise at the end complete with balloons and a delicious cake that had journeyed with us from day 1. One thing we might recommend because of the sudden change in weather (it would sometimes get extremely cold and wet) is for the equipment list to be a little bit more detailed in terms of its recommendations e.g. layers to be moisture-wicking, walking boots be waterproof, doubling up on socks to avoid blisters etc.

El Karama is a beautiful conservancy and the lodge a true labour of love. Great hospitality in a relaxed environment. Delicious, fresh food. We enjoyed the drives, even if we didn't see much wildlife as the heavens opened on us for the last two outings. However, since it was very much geared towards families, I am not sure if I would stay again without kids. That said, I think it was perfect for a 3d/2n stay post mountain, and a much better choice than flying to the masai mara given the limited time we had.

Our transits were smooth. Samuel the driver was always on time, drove safely and kept the vehicle clean.

So it was a brilliant experience and one which I certainly will cherish for some time to come. It was great to work with you for a third time, and I certainly hope it won't be the last

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”
