Lokuthula Lodges is a collection of 31 self-contained chalets set out across a tranquil leafy resort just 4km from the renowned Victoria Falls in northwest Zimbabwe. The properties sit in lovely grounds frequented by warthogs and bushbuck, right on the edge of Zambezi National Park and just a few minutes’ drive from the breath-taking Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. The lodges are positioned near a waterhole popular with wildlife including elephant, buffalo, and hyena, whilst the popular town of Victoria Falls, with its extensive visitor attractions and activities, is a short drive away. Lokuthula Lodges are a great lower-cost option for families or groups looking for flexible and spacious self-catering accommodation with onsite facilities and easy access to Victoria Falls.
The properties share a site with their sister establishment, Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, and guests benefit from sharing a number of facilities. Communal areas on site include a three tiered swimming pool, a bar, and a children’s playground. There are two restaurants, including an open air boma eatery which regularly hosts lively drum and dance displays.
The accommodation comprises 31 two and three-bedroom chalets, constructed with open windows and rustic thatched ceilings. Each two storey unit houses a comfortable lounge with two sofa beds, a fully equipped kitchen, a modern bathroom with bath and overhead shower, and either two or three bedrooms with double or twin beds. There is an additional bathroom with shower in the three-bed units. A daily cleaning service is provided, and guests have the option to stay on a B&B basis, with breakfast served daily in the resort’s onsite restaurant. The properties are equipped with mosquito nets and ceiling fans, but there is no air conditioning. Outside, there's a tranquil private terrace with dining furniture and a barbeque. Up to six guests can be accommodated in two-bedroom lodges, whilst the three-bedroom units sleep up to eight.
Children of all ages are extremely welcome at the property. Infants under three years of age are accommodated free of charge and there are discounts for guests under 12 years of age. A babysitting service is available, subject to arrangement.
We had such a good holiday. You did a fantastic job!
The house in Marrakesh was ridiculous. We effectively had it to ourselves. The accommodation was borderline palatial.
I actually think that the time we had in Marrakesh was sufficient. We could potentially have done a day by a pool but I think we’d done enough souk-ing by the end of Day Two.
The hotel in the mountains was a shade more rustic than I was expecting, but all great fun. Stunning views. The guide / mule / cook team were excellent and our guide (Hassan) tailored the treks to our capabilities well. He was superb, and really made an effort with the kids. The second and third day of trekking were particularly good. Such an adventure for the kids.
All the logistics worked seamlessly. Every aspect went like clockwork. Top marks. The advice on tipping was also much appreciated (I hate thinking that I’m getting mugged off or am potentially not giving enough…).
From my seven-year-old son:
I thought it was GREAT. The food was amazing and the culture was very interesting. My favourite bit was scrambling up rocks in the Atlas Mountains.
In retrospect, I’d probably do the trip in reverse. Flopping on the roof terrace after the rigours of the mountains would have been even more satisfying.

We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths. Will be a trip we remember forever
