Dunia is a high quality, traditional tented safari camp located in the central sector of the Serengeti in North Tanzania, a 45 minute drive from the Seronera airstrip. It is one of the Serengeti's prime game viewing areas and combines both predatory wildlife (large densities of lions and cheetahs) and migration viewing opportunities (December to March). This authentic and high-impact safari experience is inevitably popular, meaning substantial visitor traffic at times, but the camp’s elegance and affable hosts make for a lovely stay.
The secluded camp is centred round a canvas mess which houses the restaurant and main communal guest area. The views across the Serengeti plains are beautiful, and wildlife roams through the camp at night. Hyenas, giraffe and zebra can be seen at a safe distance from all areas.
The accommodation comprises eight comfortable guest tents with private en-suite bathrooms and bucket showers. Activities are mainly focussed on game drives, but there are other things to do including hot air balloon safaris followed by champagne bush breakfasts, sunrise breakfasts atop Soit Le Motonyi rock, and bird watching tours.
Children from 6 years of age are welcome. There is one family tent with a king size bed and two single beds in a separate section. Private safari vehicles are guaranteed for families of six or more during the low season, although in high season any family with children under 12 are obliged to book a private vehicle at additional cost. Private game drives mean greater flexiblity for families, and the expert guides are well accustomed to entertaining children with their bush know-how and incredible wildlife stories. It is important to note that the camp is not fenced and animals do wander through. Whilst it is true that the wildlife tends to stay away from humans and tents, parents will need to keep a close eye on children and not allow them to wander off or play independently.
Belonging to the Asilia Africa stable, Dunia Camp has the feel of the classic safari camps of days gone by, with fantastic service and a little luxury thrown in. Guests can be assured of a wonderful stay in this prime location.
We had such a good holiday. You did a fantastic job!
The house in Marrakesh was ridiculous. We effectively had it to ourselves. The accommodation was borderline palatial.
I actually think that the time we had in Marrakesh was sufficient. We could potentially have done a day by a pool but I think we’d done enough souk-ing by the end of Day Two.
The hotel in the mountains was a shade more rustic than I was expecting, but all great fun. Stunning views. The guide / mule / cook team were excellent and our guide (Hassan) tailored the treks to our capabilities well. He was superb, and really made an effort with the kids. The second and third day of trekking were particularly good. Such an adventure for the kids.
All the logistics worked seamlessly. Every aspect went like clockwork. Top marks. The advice on tipping was also much appreciated (I hate thinking that I’m getting mugged off or am potentially not giving enough…).
From my seven-year-old son:
I thought it was GREAT. The food was amazing and the culture was very interesting. My favourite bit was scrambling up rocks in the Atlas Mountains.
In retrospect, I’d probably do the trip in reverse. Flopping on the roof terrace after the rigours of the mountains would have been even more satisfying.

We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths. Will be a trip we remember forever
