Overview

Singita Serengeti House is an exclusive and luxurious property located in the private 350,000-acre Singita Grumeti Game Reserve, Northern Tanzania. This stunning ‘home from home’, perched on the Sasakwa hillside, offers fabulous views across the vast plains and unsurpassable comfort in a truly wild location.

With its wide-open verandas and tasteful blend of European design and African artefacts, Singita Serengeti House provides a deluxe yet unpretentious retreat with a tennis court and a fabulous 25-metre infinity pool overlooking a salt-lick and water hole often frequented by a family of elephants. Archery is offered and there is a high-end spa and gym at the nearby Sasakwa Lodge. Somewhat unusually for a property of its calibre, the house has been specifically designed to welcome families and small groups of friends. Its commitment to supporting the local community means that staff members are from the surrounding area and much of the food served in the restaurant is locally sourced. There is relaxed ‘family-style’ dining, with platters of food served in the centre of the table and there is also an award-winning wine cellar. Attention to detail is a given and the facilities and service are outstanding.

Up to 8 guests can stay at the property. There are two elegant suites located in the main house plus two detached garden suites. The bedrooms are tastefully decorated, spacious and well-appointed, all with their own viewing veranda and en-suite bathroom. Each of the large bathrooms has a double vanity basin, a shower and a free-standing bath.

There are plenty of activities to enjoy in the locality. Private game drives in state-of-the-art landrovers offer visitors the opportunity to view up-close the great variety of wildlife found in this area including cheetah, bearded wildebeest, Bat Eared Fox, giraffe, lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and more. It is worth noting that the Migration Path varies from year to year and at times this location may not be the best in the Serengeti for game-viewing, although nothing can really detract from the enjoyment of a stay at this first-class property. Walking and horseback safaris (experienced riders only) are also offered, as are early morning Balloon Safaris. The private nature of the Grumeti reserve means that night time safaris are possible.

In the interest of safety, participation of children in game activities is at the discretion of the guide. A babysitting service is provided, along with myriad activities tailored to children's needs including arts and crafts, baking with chefs, butterfly capture (with identification and subsequent release), face painting and a fantastic mini-rangers course involving tracking animals, an astronomy safari, flower-pressing, and tuition in bush survival techniques.

Singita Serengeti house offers a private safari experience in opulent but relaxed surroundings. The price tag is high but you most certainly get what you pay for; this is one of the best safari properties in Africa and will not disappoint.

  • We had such a good holiday. You did a fantastic job!

The house in Marrakesh was ridiculous. We effectively had it to ourselves. The accommodation was borderline palatial.

I actually think that the time we had in Marrakesh was sufficient. We could potentially have done a day by a pool but I think we’d done enough souk-ing by the end of Day Two.

The hotel in the mountains was a shade more rustic than I was expecting, but all great fun. Stunning views. The guide / mule / cook team were excellent and our guide (Hassan) tailored the treks to our capabilities well. He was superb, and really made an effort with the kids. The second and third day of trekking were particularly good. Such an adventure for the kids.

All the logistics worked seamlessly. Every aspect went like clockwork. Top marks. The advice on tipping was also much appreciated (I hate thinking that I’m getting mugged off or am potentially not giving enough…).

    From my seven-year-old son:

I thought it was GREAT. The food was amazing and the culture was very interesting. My favourite bit was scrambling up rocks in the Atlas Mountains.

In retrospect, I’d probably do the trip in reverse. Flopping on the roof terrace after the rigours of the mountains would have been even more satisfying.

  • We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths.

Will be a trip we remember forever
