The Wayo Serengeti Walking Camp (Central) is located in the Kilimafedha area near Banagi camp. The walks will take place in the Serengeti Wilderness Zone.
In general, the program of the day is an early wake up with breakfast in camp, start the walk soon after breakfast, this way we miss the heat of the day. We carry lunch with us and enjoy it in a scenic place whilst on the walk. We plan to be back in camp around 15:00 for a relaxing afternoon. We can also go on a short afternoon walk ending in a scenic place with sundowner drinks.
Guests on walks can expect to see various species of mammals; the most common been Impala, Giraffe, Zebra, Wildebeest, Warthog, Buffalo and Elephant. Obviously we would like to give some of these plenty of space thus for safety and respect to the animals, we do not approach animals unnecessary close and rather enjoy viewing them from outside the confines of a vehicle at a distance. Besides the mammals it is an ideal way to view a huge variety of woodland bird species as well as plants, insects, reptiles and amphibians.
We have a back up vehicle and small camp crew who can assist in case of emergencies and who will be responsible for moving the camp to new locations. Guests never need to carry more than a day backpack with water and personal equipment needed for only that walk.
If a walking safari is longer than two nights, we move the camp once. The camp will stay in one location for walks of only 2 nights and the walks will be circular day walks in to different areas around the camp. Our walks are not strenuous and will rarely walk further than 15km per day, over gentle hills. However we can tailor our walks to suit your guests comfort and fitness level since most of our walks are private walks for only your group. However, a guest need to have a fair level of fitness and be able to walk for at least 5 km per day on uneven terrain in order to enjoy the experience.
An extremely experienced walking guide will be guiding all walks. This guide will carry a high caliber rifle and he can actually use it. Our guides have been trained to not only guide safe walks but to also bring across the essence of a walking safari and to make guests realize just how special they are having the opportunity to explore this remote corner of bush, all alone and on foot. An armed TANAPA ranger will also join the walk.
Tents are 2.5m x 2.5m dome tents, thick mattresses on the ground but still 100% linen bedding. The bathrooms for the walking camps are not attached to the main tent but set up a few meters away. The bathroom space still is a large and comfortable with a shallow pit latrine, hanging bucket showers and basins for face washing.
We had such a good holiday. You did a fantastic job!
The house in Marrakesh was ridiculous. We effectively had it to ourselves. The accommodation was borderline palatial.
I actually think that the time we had in Marrakesh was sufficient. We could potentially have done a day by a pool but I think we’d done enough souk-ing by the end of Day Two.
The hotel in the mountains was a shade more rustic than I was expecting, but all great fun. Stunning views. The guide / mule / cook team were excellent and our guide (Hassan) tailored the treks to our capabilities well. He was superb, and really made an effort with the kids. The second and third day of trekking were particularly good. Such an adventure for the kids.
All the logistics worked seamlessly. Every aspect went like clockwork. Top marks. The advice on tipping was also much appreciated (I hate thinking that I’m getting mugged off or am potentially not giving enough…).
From my seven-year-old son:
I thought it was GREAT. The food was amazing and the culture was very interesting. My favourite bit was scrambling up rocks in the Atlas Mountains.
In retrospect, I’d probably do the trip in reverse. Flopping on the roof terrace after the rigours of the mountains would have been even more satisfying.

We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths. Will be a trip we remember forever
