Overview

Bayete Guest Lodge is one of the newer and more modern lodges in the town of Victoria Falls. With the iconic falls just a short drive away, guests are well placed for exploring what is Zimbabwe’s most famous attraction, not to mention one of the natural wonders of the world. The family-run lodge, which underwent refurbishment in 2015, is located in the quieter, residential area of the town and it’s high walls and abundance of vegetation lend the property a tranquil and secluded feel.

There are 25 guest rooms altogether, all set within the lodge’s lush, well maintained tropical gardens. There are four room categories: the Deluxe Room, the Family Cottage, the Executive Room and the Honeymoon Suite. All options offer a generous amount of space and are tastefully decorated. Amenities include complimentary toiletries, tea and coffee making facilities and a USB power point. All rooms are air conditioned and have mosquito nets, with insect repellent provided. Hairdryers and pool towels are available on request.

Full-English breakfast is served daily in the Caldecott Dining ‘Boma’. Dinner and lunch are also served here, though these are only available on request and must be ordered in advance. Guests can also choose to request a buffet or a traditional barbecue. The Ingwezi Tavern offers a broad drinks menu and is the lodge’s main gathering point for those looking to socialise, relax with a drink or two, or simply unwind after a long day. There’s a lovey teardrop-shaped pool and a leisurely stroll through the lodge’s gardens is a must.

There’s a great variety of activities on offer including helicopter flights over the falls, guided tours of the falls and nearby vantage points and sunset cruises on the Zanzebi River. Game drives, walking safaris and white water rafting expeditions are also popular pursuits. For adrenaline junkies, there are several thrilling activities based around the bridge near the falls, such as cable sliding and bungee jumping.

The lodge welcomes children. Depending on size, families are advised to book the triple sleeper rooms or the thatched Family Cottage, which can comfortably accommodate two adults and up to three children. The double bed and three single beds in the self-contained cottage all have mosquito nets, and the bathroom houses a shower and a toilet.

  • We had such a good holiday. You did a fantastic job!

The house in Marrakesh was ridiculous. We effectively had it to ourselves. The accommodation was borderline palatial.

I actually think that the time we had in Marrakesh was sufficient. We could potentially have done a day by a pool but I think we’d done enough souk-ing by the end of Day Two.

The hotel in the mountains was a shade more rustic than I was expecting, but all great fun. Stunning views. The guide / mule / cook team were excellent and our guide (Hassan) tailored the treks to our capabilities well. He was superb, and really made an effort with the kids. The second and third day of trekking were particularly good. Such an adventure for the kids.

All the logistics worked seamlessly. Every aspect went like clockwork. Top marks. The advice on tipping was also much appreciated (I hate thinking that I’m getting mugged off or am potentially not giving enough…).

    From my seven-year-old son:

I thought it was GREAT. The food was amazing and the culture was very interesting. My favourite bit was scrambling up rocks in the Atlas Mountains.

In retrospect, I’d probably do the trip in reverse. Flopping on the roof terrace after the rigours of the mountains would have been even more satisfying.

  • We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths.

Will be a trip we remember forever
