Jnane Tamsna is a refined and elegant luxury boutique hotel set within its own landscaped private estate in the Palmeraie, a historic palm grove conveniently located a short 20-minute drive from downtown Marrakesh. With 24 ensuite rooms across three properties, the accommodation offering includes individual room bookings, or exclusive villa rentals. Boasting beautiful grounds, exceptional service and cuisine, and some superb facilities comprising no fewer than five swimming pools and a clay-surfaced tennis court, this opulent retreat provides the perfect spot for rest and rejuvenation. There’s also a varied programme of residential activities, and some wonderful day trips to enjoy in the surrounding area.
The hotel’s design combines traditional Moroccan architecture with understated oriental décor, accentuated with exquisite Islamic art and African fabrics. Noted for its cuisine, the hotel’s meals are flavoursome and fresh, with produce and herbs sourced where possible from the on-site organic gardens. Candlelit meals are often enjoyed outdoors in one of the grounds’ many delightful alcoves.
The accommodation comprises 24 bedrooms spread out over three properties; Jnane House, Jnane Moussafir, and Jnane Villa. Jnane House has a traditional riad feel, extensive grounds with two pools, and a total of 10 bedrooms; six on the ground floor, and four on the first floor facing a roof terrace. Two more private rooms are found in Dar Ylane, a separate property just a short distance away from the main Jnane House. Smaller in scale, Jnane Moussafir contains just five spacious suites, each with individual Islamic-inspired décor, air conditioning, a fireplace, and a walk-in closet. All of Jnane Moussafir’s suites boast private north and south verandas with views over an exclusive garden, along with access to their own roof terraces, and all bathrooms have a fireplace, a luxurious bathtub, two sinks, and a separate shower and toilet. The third property, Jnane Villa, features a large dining room, breakfast room, and lounge area with fireplace and adjoining veranda, and houses five spacious en-suite bedrooms with open fireplaces. There’s a large pool in the private Mediterranean gardens, and, set aside in another separate garden, the Jnane Villa Pavilion contains two bedroom suites with fireplaces, a sitting room, and al fresco dining area, along with a private pool fringed by lavender and olive trees. Televisions, DVD, and CD players are available upon request, and WiFi is available throughout.
The hotel is renowned for its rotating programme of superb residential events, including yoga and pilates classes, spa retreats, cooking workshops, and literary salons. These activities, coupled with the clay tennis courts and five swimming pools provide plenty to do on site, although reception can assist with booking activities elsewhere, including day trips to Essaouira and the Atlas Mountains, should guests wish to venture out.
Jnane Tamsna is a highly family-friendly property, with many flexible room options. There are three sets of adjoining bedrooms, and in addition the Casablanca and Calligraphy suites within the Jnane Moussafir part of the property, share a large veranda. Cots are provided free-of-charge, and additional beds are available at extra cost. Babysitting is available day or night, and beyond the tennis courts, pools, TV and games room, children's entertainment including henna painting, cooking lessons, and camel rides can be booked in advance.
We had such a good holiday. You did a fantastic job!
The house in Marrakesh was ridiculous. We effectively had it to ourselves. The accommodation was borderline palatial.
I actually think that the time we had in Marrakesh was sufficient. We could potentially have done a day by a pool but I think we’d done enough souk-ing by the end of Day Two.
The hotel in the mountains was a shade more rustic than I was expecting, but all great fun. Stunning views. The guide / mule / cook team were excellent and our guide (Hassan) tailored the treks to our capabilities well. He was superb, and really made an effort with the kids. The second and third day of trekking were particularly good. Such an adventure for the kids.
All the logistics worked seamlessly. Every aspect went like clockwork. Top marks. The advice on tipping was also much appreciated (I hate thinking that I’m getting mugged off or am potentially not giving enough…).
From my seven-year-old son:
I thought it was GREAT. The food was amazing and the culture was very interesting. My favourite bit was scrambling up rocks in the Atlas Mountains.
In retrospect, I’d probably do the trip in reverse. Flopping on the roof terrace after the rigours of the mountains would have been even more satisfying.

Trip was great and all the arrangements were excellent so thank you for all the help!
Drivers and transfers were all good - on time and very good service on each trip.
Accommodation was lovely - Douar Samra was amazing (weather could have been better but lovely regardless). Riad in Marrakesh was also great!
All in all a great trip and we loved the variety of the mountains, Marrakesh and the coast.
Thanks you once again!
