Your holiday starts in Morocco's awe-inspiring mountain range, the High Atlas. Away from the souks, the high peaks and deep valleys offer a very different type of calm. On a three day trek through the valleys, you'll see another side of Morocco of lush valleys and traditional Berber Villages.

From the Atlas Mountains, you'll head back to Marrakech, the beating heart of Morocco. With chaotic souks, intoxicating spice markets and the magnetic charm of the Djemma El Fna, you will spend 3 days exploring. As well as the souks, there are some fascinating places of interest to visit, including the ancient Bahia Palace and the famous Jardin majorelle, gardens designed by Yves Saint Laurent.

After you have had your fill of Marrakech, you head to the laid-back coastal town of Essaouira, just over 2 hours away, but a world away in terms of atmosphere. Crashing waves, windy beaches and impressive city ramparts make it a haven for those looking to relax and get away from the crowds. For the more actively inclined, there are plenty of opportunities here for surfing & kite-surfing.

This is a tailor-made holiday, designed to your specific requirements. The itinerary below is meant as a guide only. Please contact us via the form below, or on the phone, to discuss your individual requirements.

You will be picked up from Marrakech airport and transferred to the small town of Imlil in the Atlas Mountains. Your first night is spent in a friendly family run guest house where you will enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner on the roof terrace (weather permitting)
Meals Included: Dinner
Accommodation: Dar Adrar
Transport (where relevant): Private Transfer to Imlil (90 minutes)

Imlil – Tizi n Mzik –Tizi Oussem
After breakfast, you will meet your guide and muleteer. Once you have loaded up your bags, the mule and cook set off together, taking a head-start to pick a perfect picnic spot and start cooking your lunch. Your walk starts with a fairly stiff climb up towards the pass at Tizi n Mzik (2489m), which offers dramatic mountain views. From here, the trail descends down into the spectacular Azzadene valley, known locally as the valley of colour. Your day of walking ends in the small Berber village of Tizi Oussem where you will spend the night in a gite. If you’re feeling energetic, you can take a slight route detour to include the D’Irhoulidene waterfalls, this adds a couple of extra hours walking but is worth the effort. Approx. 4-5 hours walking, 6-7 hours walking including the waterfalls. (749m ascent & 649m descent)
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Village Gite
Transport (where relevant): n/a

Tizi Oussem – Tinzert
After breakfast you will set off walking through the Azzadene valley, passing traditional Berber mountain villages. The view behind you is of the peaks of the High Atlas, whilst the valley ahead offers beautiful scenery with a rushing mountain stream surrounded by lush walnut groves. As you descend you will eventually enter the Ouirgane National Park, a protected area of natural beauty. Tonight you stay in Tinzert, a rustic Berber village. Approx. 5-6 hours walking (640m descent)
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Village Gite
Transport (where relevant): n/a

Tinzert – Imi Oughlad – Marrakech
Today is the gentlest day of walking; there are fewer steep inclines and descents so you can really enjoy the Mediterranean-esque scenery. Shepherds tend to their goats amongst the pretty valleys dotted with juniper trees, rosemary and thyme. You will be walking towards Imi Oughlad where you will have lunch before saying goodbye to your cook, guide (and mule). After lunch, you will be picked up and driven to your accommodation in Imlil where you can enjoy a hot shower followed by an afternoon of relaxation. Approx. 4 hours walking (200m ascent)
You will be transferred back to Marrakech after breakfast. (approx. 1 ½ hour drive) Once you have settled into your riad, we suggest you set off and explore Marrakech's medina. You can spend all day pounding the souks and taking in the atmosphere or you could relax on the roof terrace on one of the sun loungers. In the evening, be sure to head down to the main square here food stalls, acrobats, snake charmers and story tellers congregate creating an unforgettable atmosphere.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch
Accommodation: Dar Adrar
Accommodation: Dar Hanane / Riad Tzarra / Dar Vedra / Dar One
Transport (where relevant): Private Transfer Imlil to Marrakech (90 minutes)

Today you might want to see some of the main cultural sights of Marrakech, including the Medersa Ben Youssef, Palais el Badi and the Bahia Palace, interspersed with a leisurely lunch watching the storks nesting on the ramparts of the ancient city or perhaps some people watching at a cafe in the Spice market. In the evening, you might want to enjoy dinner in one of the restaurants over-looking the main square, or perhaps ask your host to book you a table at the atmospheric Foundouk restaurant, serving up delicious French & Moroccan fusion food.
Meals Included: Breakfast
Accommodation: Dar Hanane / Riad Tzarra / Dar Vedra / Dar One

This morning you will have a cooking class at the world famous Maison Arabe. Your cookery class will start with an introduction to Moroccan cuisine and the part it plays in society. Your teacher will talk you through the various spices and ingredients traditionally used and will also explain how different dishes are prepared. Depending on your location - some of the classes are in the medina some are just outside of Marrakech - you may visit a local spice shop to taste and smell the different spices used in traditional and modern kitchens across Morocco.
Back in the kitchen, all of the ingredients will have been laid out for you. Every participant is given an apron, utensils and ingredients to use and the cookery teacher stands at the head of the table demonstrating how to prepare and cook the meal. The atmosphere is informal and participants are encouraged to ask as many questions as they like. Cooking will last about an hour after which the class sits down to together to enjoy the meals they have all just created. What you actually cook on the day can vary, usually the first people to book on to a workshop decide on the dish for the group to cook. In the afternoon, you might want to catch a petit taxi out to the Majorelle Gardens, designed by Yves Saint Laurent. The gardens are beautifully laid out and offer a welcome respite to the chaos of the medina. (There is also a lovely cafe there)

Most people like to spend 2 - 3 days in Marrakech, but after that, they need a change of pace. Essaouira is the perfect solution. A two - three hour drive through pretty countryside, passing the bizarre sight of goats climbing argan trees and you will arrive in this laid-back coastal town. Once you have settled into your riad, you can go for an explore of the town, the lanes and souks will be like a breathe of fresh air after the chaos of Marrakech. For your first meal, we suggest visiting one of the many fish restaurants in the town.
Meals Included: Breakfast only
Accommodation: Ryad Watier
Transport (where relevant): Private Transfer Marrakech to Essaouira (3 hrs)

There is no need for a guide in Essaouira, as it is a small, un-threatening place to explore. Make sure you go to the town's ramparts for a stunning view of the sea and then head to the beach. Whilst sun-bathing is an option here, it is a windy place, so the beach is best suited for the active, or those wanting a stroll. There are some lovely beach-side cafes where you can kick back and relax.

Is it for me?

The three day valleys trek is a moderate trek suitable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. Please note that the accommodation used is simple, with shared bathroom facilities.

Tourdust trek grading: Moderate

Essaouira is a lovely place to visit. However, you should note that this is the Atlantic coast, so the sea is wavy, rather than the calm of the Mediterranean resorts.

  • Service rating : Excellent service all around. We had lots of helpful advice about where to go and where to stay. Pre tour information dossier spot on, loads of really useful and relevant information. Local guides wonderful, always punctual and very professional whilst maintaining a great sense of fun and adventure. We felt well looked after and enjoyed amazing scenery, hotels, food and adventures. The Atlas mountains and Sahara Desert were empty in August, amazing to have it all to ourselves. If you don't mind the heat think it's a great choice for a family summer holiday with teenagers, I think Morocco is missing a marketing trick here!
Product : Excellent value holiday to Morocco.

Product : As we learned more about the options for lodging and travel we made a number of changes. Tourdust was really helpful in helping us understand choices and costs of different options. They used partners/contractors in country who were very reliable. Hotels and transit were excellent

  • We had an amazing time thank you very much! The riads and hotels were outstanding and everything went as clockwork. We had really bad rainfall on the day we transferred to Marrakech but our driver didnt give up and we eventually found a passable road ( which I think was the last possible one to get us there!)

    Thank you so much!
