Overview

Riad Papillon is located in the fashionable antique district of the famous old Marrakech Medina. J Very close to the fashionable Dar El Bacha palace, only 5 minutes' walk from the souks and under 10 minutes' walk from the main square, Place Jemma el Fna. Set at the end of a short alley off the wide pedestrian and scooter thoroughfare, only a couple of minutes’ walk from taxi access, it is situated in an antique dealers’ district.

The delightful roof terrace has view out over to the Atlas Mountains on a clear day with a Berber tent, sun loungers and barbeque. This is a perfect spot to enjoy breakfast at your leisure or gather in the evening for a meal.

Of the five bedrooms three, Bouganvilla, Jasmine and Rose are onto the ground floor courtyard with access to the pool. The second two (Geranium and Hibiscus) are on the first floor with an open “bhou” sitting room with fireplace. Each bedroom has a hand carved queen sized bed which may be converted into twin beds - the flexibility to sleep up to 10 people in single beds when required is a particular advantage for groups of singles. All rooms have air-conditioning, heating, Satellite TV, iPod docking stations, mini fridge, Wi-Fi, hairdryers, top quality sprung mattresses, 300 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets, hypoallergenic pillows and en suite bathrooms with showers – Room Jasmine also has a bath and the Rose room may sleep a third person.

  • We had such a good holiday. You did a fantastic job!

The house in Marrakesh was ridiculous. We effectively had it to ourselves. The accommodation was borderline palatial.

I actually think that the time we had in Marrakesh was sufficient. We could potentially have done a day by a pool but I think we’d done enough souk-ing by the end of Day Two.

The hotel in the mountains was a shade more rustic than I was expecting, but all great fun. Stunning views. The guide / mule / cook team were excellent and our guide (Hassan) tailored the treks to our capabilities well. He was superb, and really made an effort with the kids. The second and third day of trekking were particularly good. Such an adventure for the kids.

All the logistics worked seamlessly. Every aspect went like clockwork. Top marks. The advice on tipping was also much appreciated (I hate thinking that I’m getting mugged off or am potentially not giving enough…).

    From my seven-year-old son:

I thought it was GREAT. The food was amazing and the culture was very interesting. My favourite bit was scrambling up rocks in the Atlas Mountains.

In retrospect, I’d probably do the trip in reverse. Flopping on the roof terrace after the rigours of the mountains would have been even more satisfying.

  • Trip was great and all the arrangements were excellent so thank you for all the help!

Drivers and transfers were all good - on time and very good service on each trip.

Accommodation was lovely - Douar Samra was amazing (weather could have been better but lovely regardless). Riad in Marrakesh was also great!

All in all a great trip and we loved the variety of the mountains, Marrakesh and the coast.

    Thanks you once again!
