EnquireBehind Canyon Roadhouse can be found Canyon Road Campsite: a collection of small campsites beside a dry riverbed against a backdrop of rocky mountains that offers an authentic in-the-wilderness experience suitable for groups or families.
Guest accommodation consists of 10 campsites, with a maximum of 10 people per campsite. Each campsite features its own ablution blocks and campfire, for which wood can be purchased at the main reception. The main lodge features a restaurant, bar, and communal swimming pool, as well as free Wi-Fi service.
Situated behind Canyon Roadhouse on the privately-owned Gondwana Canyon Park, Canyon Road Campsite provides a great base from which to go out and explore Fish River Canyon. There are unguided morning hikes, guided sunset walks, and Canyon and scenic drives. There are also guided excursions to the canyon viewpoints, 3-4 day superlative canyon trail hikes, and 4x4 drives through the so-called ‘Wildebeest Route’ towards Canyon Lodge and Canyon Village to view zebra and wildebeest on the grassy plains.
Like Canyon Roadhouse, this campsite is slightly further away from Fish River Canyon than Canyon Lodge and Canyon Village. But, positioned next to a hill, the site offers great views of the surrounding area: watching the sun set behind the Holoog Mountain over the Gondwana Canyon Park is very special.
This is a good place for families to visit. Children of all ages are welcome at Canyon Road Campsite and there are a number of activities in which they can participate, including hiking trails and excursions to the Fish River Canyon.
We had such a good holiday. You did a fantastic job!
The house in Marrakesh was ridiculous. We effectively had it to ourselves. The accommodation was borderline palatial.
I actually think that the time we had in Marrakesh was sufficient. We could potentially have done a day by a pool but I think we’d done enough souk-ing by the end of Day Two.
The hotel in the mountains was a shade more rustic than I was expecting, but all great fun. Stunning views. The guide / mule / cook team were excellent and our guide (Hassan) tailored the treks to our capabilities well. He was superb, and really made an effort with the kids. The second and third day of trekking were particularly good. Such an adventure for the kids.
All the logistics worked seamlessly. Every aspect went like clockwork. Top marks. The advice on tipping was also much appreciated (I hate thinking that I’m getting mugged off or am potentially not giving enough…).
From my seven-year-old son:
I thought it was GREAT. The food was amazing and the culture was very interesting. My favourite bit was scrambling up rocks in the Atlas Mountains.
In retrospect, I’d probably do the trip in reverse. Flopping on the roof terrace after the rigours of the mountains would have been even more satisfying.

We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths. Will be a trip we remember forever
