EnquireFish River Lodge was built specifically so that guests could have the best view of the Fish River Canyon, and this was achieved. Its surroundings are stark, but its position on the very lip of the canyon gives it a prime spot overlooking the wilderness below and the renowned sunrise and sunset.
Guest accommodation consists of 20 chalets spread along the canyon edge. Each chalet offers an incredible panoramic view of the canyon and surrounding area from its private outside deck, and features spacious bathrooms with an optional outdoor shower. The outside deck is a great place to sleep under the stars or as a relaxing plank for yoga enthusiasts.
The main lodge has a great view of the canyon, too, as well as fantastic communal facilities such as a rim pool with a spacious wooden deck for outdoor dining. Candlelit dinners on the deck can also be arranged, and there is a big fireplace inside to warm around on cold nights.
Fish River Lodge offers a unique hiking experience led by experienced guides to small parties of guests as well as 4x4 access to the privately-owned park below. After a day’s hiking, guests will welcome the spa treatment on offer in the lodge and the quality food prepared by private chefs.
Children of all ages are welcome at Fish River Lodge, with children under the age of 6 years able to visit free of charge. However, there are not many activities available here except for game drives and hiking trails.
We had such a good holiday. You did a fantastic job!
The house in Marrakesh was ridiculous. We effectively had it to ourselves. The accommodation was borderline palatial.
I actually think that the time we had in Marrakesh was sufficient. We could potentially have done a day by a pool but I think we’d done enough souk-ing by the end of Day Two.
The hotel in the mountains was a shade more rustic than I was expecting, but all great fun. Stunning views. The guide / mule / cook team were excellent and our guide (Hassan) tailored the treks to our capabilities well. He was superb, and really made an effort with the kids. The second and third day of trekking were particularly good. Such an adventure for the kids.
All the logistics worked seamlessly. Every aspect went like clockwork. Top marks. The advice on tipping was also much appreciated (I hate thinking that I’m getting mugged off or am potentially not giving enough…).
From my seven-year-old son:
I thought it was GREAT. The food was amazing and the culture was very interesting. My favourite bit was scrambling up rocks in the Atlas Mountains.
In retrospect, I’d probably do the trip in reverse. Flopping on the roof terrace after the rigours of the mountains would have been even more satisfying.

We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths. Will be a trip we remember forever
