- &Beyond property
- Semi mobile tented camp
- Traditional safari experience
- Mix of water and land based safari
Chobe Under Canvas is a 6 tent traditional semi-mobile camp in the Chobe National Park from the &Beyond stable offering their typically high standards but at a lower cost from their other camps in the country.
Botswana's first ever national park, Chobe National Park, borders the Chobe river and is home to one of the largest elephant populations in Africa. During the June/October dry season a host of wildlife migrates towards the river and in addition to herds of elephants there are also buffalo, antelope, crocodiles and hippo's. On the floodplains beyond the river Lion, leopard and spotted hyena can be frequently seen and red lechwe, puku a rare breed of antelope seen only in this region) roam freely. Chobe is a remote and unspoilt wildlife area providing an authentic safari experience and a wonderful opportunity to see elephants cavorting in the Chobe river. As this is a National Park, game drives here are more traffic heavy than in private conservancy areas.
Chobe under canvas is comprised of 6 spacious tents with comfortable double bed and ensuite bathroom (including a conventional plumbed w.c) and a steaming hot bucket shower with water delivered on request. Meals are prepared around an open fire where friendly staff and guests share stories of the days safari. There is also a 'guest area' where you can enjoy a pre dinner glass of wine and watch for the array of animals which may wander into camp. A typical day would begin at 6.00am with a morning safari returning for brunch at 10.30am. After time relaxing, afternoon tea is served at 3.30pm after which guests depart on an afternoon safari returning to camp around 6pm in time for pre dinner drinks at 7pm. The Camp has specially designed riverboats and sundowner cruises are also a great way of seeing buffalo up close as they come out of the shade to graze in the cooler evenings and elephants as they wade in the river.
Chobe Under Canvas is not particularly family friendly, the minimum age for children at the camp is 12 years old. Please note this camp is unfenced and open to the wildlife.

It was FANTASTIC! Beautifully organised, everything worked like clockwork. We agreed that we had the best support team ever (and we have experience) - all delightful, very professional and nothing was too much bother.
It clearly couldn't have been a better route, such a wonderful mix of landscapes. And plenty of acclimatisation time. Nonetheless, I was glad of my summit oxygen.
Kit excellent. Double good mattresses made for most comfortable trek camping ever. Tents v good. Mess tent pretty windproof, which was vital for enjoyment. Best camp loo ever!
My favourite day was Shira Cathedral. Amazing.

The safari trip was excellent! The stay, the food and the people were all very nice. We were happy to have Ryan and Stanley as our game drive guides they brought us up close to the animals and Ryan gave very good information throughout.
Would definitely recommend to friends who are interested in safaris :)
Also, thanks much for your help, particularly keeping the room for my Brother and his wife they’ve enjoyed the safari very much too!

We had a fantastic time and all the arrangements worked perfectly.
We were very impressed with the quality and service levels of all 4 locations visited and it was truly a holiday of a lifetime.
Thank you to you and to Lisa for giving us this experience.
Particular highlights for us – really the whole experience, but of particular impact:
Breathtaking scenery at Cathedral Peak Hotel
Rhino Ridge game drives incredible, thanks to guide (we had their head guide, Hala, who’s knowledge, enthusiasm, kindness, interaction, ability to spot wildlife was out of this world)
Luxury of Rhino Ridge (shower, food, views, service)
Immersion in nature, torch lit meal on last night and beach trip at Kosi Forest Lodge
Level of service, quality of food throughout
