Overview

Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero is set on the edge of Chobe National Park above the Chobe River, northern Botswana. In the heart of elephant country and with particularly good river safaris this is a highly professional lodge, ideal for guests experiencing a safari for the first time.

The lodge boasts a whole host of facilities for a more relaxing stay. An impressive spa, large pool area and emphasis on fine dining make this a more exclusive accommodation.

A variety of activities are offered here, with the emphasis on game drives and river safaris. Famous in the Chobe area, river safaris provide a unique chance to spot wildlife from the water and you may even see elephants snorkelling across the river! Photographic and sundowner cruises are also included in the safari experience and additional fishing excursions and a day trip to Victoria Falls can be organised on request.

The accommodation at Chobe Chilwero is split into 14 cottages and a honeymoon suite. Each of the thatched cottages has indoor and outdoor showers, free-standing baths and their own private garden. The honeymoon suite also has a private plunge pool and deck area.

Children of all ages welcome. Chobe Chilwero runs a special kids programme that offers a variety of activities including ‘Safari Hunts’, kiddie croquet, walking safaris and pizza making, Menus and meal times are also flexible to suit family timings. Children under five can participate in game drives at the manager’s discretion and subject to booking a private vehicle.

Chobe Chilwero is a well-rounded, luxurious lodge that offers good game viewing and relaxing home comforts.

  • We had such a good holiday. You did a fantastic job!

The house in Marrakesh was ridiculous. We effectively had it to ourselves. The accommodation was borderline palatial.

I actually think that the time we had in Marrakesh was sufficient. We could potentially have done a day by a pool but I think we’d done enough souk-ing by the end of Day Two.

The hotel in the mountains was a shade more rustic than I was expecting, but all great fun. Stunning views. The guide / mule / cook team were excellent and our guide (Hassan) tailored the treks to our capabilities well. He was superb, and really made an effort with the kids. The second and third day of trekking were particularly good. Such an adventure for the kids.

All the logistics worked seamlessly. Every aspect went like clockwork. Top marks. The advice on tipping was also much appreciated (I hate thinking that I’m getting mugged off or am potentially not giving enough…).

    From my seven-year-old son:

I thought it was GREAT. The food was amazing and the culture was very interesting. My favourite bit was scrambling up rocks in the Atlas Mountains.

In retrospect, I’d probably do the trip in reverse. Flopping on the roof terrace after the rigours of the mountains would have been even more satisfying.

  • We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths.

Will be a trip we remember forever
