Overview

Chobe Game Lodge is a luxury safari experience that offers some of the best game viewing opportunities in this Botswana region. Located on the banks of the Chobe River, west of Kasane, the camp forms the only permanent base from which to explore the vibrant wilderness of Chobe National Park.

Lion, leopard, sable, roan antelope, African wild dog, puku, red lechwe, and giraffe are just some of the game that make up the Chobe’s diverse and abundant wildlife. Best of all, the surrounding area is home to the largest concentration of elephant in Africa. Along with great herds of buffalo, the elephants come to bathe, drink, and play in the Chobe River, and thus offer a fantastic spectacle to satisfy game viewing desires. On top of this, the Chobe area also attracts spectacular flocks of birds such as Schalows turacos, western-branded snake-eagles, hooded vultures, rosy-throated longclaw, and barred owlet and white-browed coucal. These birds are some of the 450 species guests will be able to spot wandering in the areas around the camp.

With such great game to see, the camp offers morning and afternoon game drives on 4x4 Land Cruisers as well as mid-morning and sunset safari cruises. These activities are led by an all-female team of guides and resident environmentalists. All activities are family-friendly and children of all ages are welcome at the lodge, but there are no babysitting facilities.

Chobe Game Lodge is larger than most safari camps. It consists of 47 luxury rooms with en-suite bathrooms; four of which have king-sized beds with large private terraces and plunge pools, whilst the others include one family room and 41 twin or double standard rooms. In total, the camp hosts up to 94 people at any one time. All rooms face the river to offer the best chance to see game from the comfort of your private space.

The main lodge is replete with lavish facilities to enhance your safari experience. The main dining area serves exquisite buffet-style and a-la-carte meals, which are equalled by food available at dining areas all around the lodge. Boma dining on the bank of the Chobe River is particularly breath-taking. The Tshwene Lounge and Cigar Bar with a library, billiard table and television, in addition to the Linyanti cocktail bar, the beauty salon and gym, and swimming pool, strike the perfect balance between stylishness and privacy.

Topping it all is the lodge’s eco-friendly elevated River Board walk and three viewing decks. These are used for watching the sun set whilst privately dining. Chobe Game Lodge’s expert mixture of great game viewing opportunities and luxury living that embraces the outdoors makes it a one-of-a-kind safari experience perfectly located in a one-of-a-kind hub of Botswana’s vivacious wildlife.

  • I was also just about to email you to thank you and the team for arranging yet again, another wonderful experience.

Mount Kenya was spectacular and wild - I think I prefer it to Kili in many ways. The entire support team was professional, friendly and all round fantastic in making sure that we were safe, well fed and well looked after. In particular, we would commend Peter the guide as well as Paul one of the porters who doubled-up as his deputy on summit day. Our route was often shrouded in mist and rain that rapidly gathered in the valleys and moorlands, and we were very impressed at how Peter managed to navigate us safely through all of that notwithstanding. In addition, we loved learning about the history of Mount Kenya from him in the evenings. And ofcourse, I was blown away by the lovely birthday surprise at the end complete with balloons and a delicious cake that had journeyed with us from day 1. One thing we might recommend because of the sudden change in weather (it would sometimes get extremely cold and wet) is for the equipment list to be a little bit more detailed in terms of its recommendations e.g. layers to be moisture-wicking, walking boots be waterproof, doubling up on socks to avoid blisters etc.

El Karama is a beautiful conservancy and the lodge a true labour of love. Great hospitality in a relaxed environment. Delicious, fresh food. We enjoyed the drives, even if we didn't see much wildlife as the heavens opened on us for the last two outings. However, since it was very much geared towards families, I am not sure if I would stay again without kids. That said, I think it was perfect for a 3d/2n stay post mountain, and a much better choice than flying to the masai mara given the limited time we had.

Our transits were smooth. Samuel the driver was always on time, drove safely and kept the vehicle clean.

So it was a brilliant experience and one which I certainly will cherish for some time to come. It was great to work with you for a third time, and I certainly hope it won't be the last

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”
