Overview

Beachcomber Paradis is a luxury leisure resort located in the far southwest of Mauritius. It lies on a peninsula that juts out into a beautiful lagoon and is set out against the majestic backdrop of Le Morne Mountain, a huge basaltic monolith known for its steep slopes and assortment of caves. While there are other high-end resorts in the vicinity, Beachcomber Paradis is set apart by its secluded location on a narrow peninsula, with ocean vistas on one side and views of the lagoon and Mauritius itself on the other.

There are no fewer than a dozen different room categories to choose from. These cater for a broad range of budgets and include standard rooms, beachfront rooms, suites and villas. All of the rooms are pleasant, airy, bright and spacious. Some offer views of the resort's well-presented gardens, while others have direct beach access and picturesque ocean views. The large Paradis and Presidential Villas are the most exclusive option – set apart from the rest of the property, they are accessible by car, bike or electric buggy and offer tranquillity in a particularly private setting. Amenities common to all rooms include a TV with cable channels, a minibar, complimentary tea and coffee, air conditioning and an en-suite bathroom with separate bathtub and shower.

The resort has its very own professional-standard, 18-hole golf course that covers a significant amount of the peninsula. There’s also an on-site golfing academy offering bespoke, personalised coaching sessions and catering for both amateurs and experienced players alike. After a round of golf, many enjoy a refreshing drink at the elegant club house. Many other sporting pursuits are available, most of which can be enjoyed free of charge. It’s possible to play football, enjoy games of volleyball out on the beach or play tennis on one of six floodlit courts. For those looking to get out on the water, there’s windsurfing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding and snorkelling, with activities such as kitesurfing, swimming with dolphins and scuba diving available at an extra cost. The resort’s well-equipped sports centre is among the largest on the island and offers a broad menu of classes and workouts. Nearby, it’s possible to visit the Casela wildlife and adventure park, the Tamarin salt pans and the historic Martello Tower museum.

When it comes to dining, guests have four high-quality restaurants to choose from, each offering sumptuous cuisine and personalised service. Dining experiences range from casual light lunches to sophisticated dinners served right by the ocean. There’s also a peaceful spa with a serene feel and a fantastic choice of pampering treatments.

The resort is very family friendly indeed. Nearly all of the rooms accommodate children, with the suites recommended for those with more than one child. The Paradis Kids Club welcomes youngsters aged 3-11 and offers both indoor and outdoor play areas, along with a kids-only restaurant. There are many activities children can take part in, from glass-bottom boat trips and bicycle rides, to water-skiing and golf.

  • We had such a good holiday. You did a fantastic job!

The house in Marrakesh was ridiculous. We effectively had it to ourselves. The accommodation was borderline palatial.

I actually think that the time we had in Marrakesh was sufficient. We could potentially have done a day by a pool but I think we’d done enough souk-ing by the end of Day Two.

The hotel in the mountains was a shade more rustic than I was expecting, but all great fun. Stunning views. The guide / mule / cook team were excellent and our guide (Hassan) tailored the treks to our capabilities well. He was superb, and really made an effort with the kids. The second and third day of trekking were particularly good. Such an adventure for the kids.

All the logistics worked seamlessly. Every aspect went like clockwork. Top marks. The advice on tipping was also much appreciated (I hate thinking that I’m getting mugged off or am potentially not giving enough…).

    From my seven-year-old son:

I thought it was GREAT. The food was amazing and the culture was very interesting. My favourite bit was scrambling up rocks in the Atlas Mountains.

In retrospect, I’d probably do the trip in reverse. Flopping on the roof terrace after the rigours of the mountains would have been even more satisfying.

  • We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths.

Will be a trip we remember forever
