Overview

A Little Sossus Lodge is a laidback and tranquil property set within the vast, open plains of the stunningly beautiful Namib Desert. The property’s site has an open feel and guests are free to wander around and enjoy the spectacular views of the dusty desert plains and the towering mountains in the distance. While the lodge is simple and very remote, it has enough amenities and facilities for a comfortable stay along with access to some of Namibia’s most jaw-dropping landscapes.

Guests can choose to stay in a chalet or a tent. There are 20 stone-walled chalets, all of which are fairly large in size and are well spaced apart for privacy. Each chalet comes with fans and electric lights that are charged by a wind generator throughout the day. They also have an en-suite bathroom with complimentary, environmentally-friendly toiletries included. For those looking to stay in tents, there are a total of ten campsites dotted about the property. Each one of these has its own bathroom facilities, kitchen area, hot water supply and power supply.

The Namib-Naukluft National Park, Africa’s largest game park and the world’s fourth largest, is a key attraction. The park is known for its expansive, unspoiled desert landscapes and its towering sand dunes, which are among the largest in the world. One of the park’s most popular attractions is Sossusvlei, a white salt and clay pan surrounded by gigantic red and orange dunes that reach nearly four hundred metres in height in some places. While visitors are free to explore the park independently, it’s worth considering a tour led by the lodge’s professional guides who will provide in-depth knowledge about the surroundings. Early evening drives up to a mountain vantage point to watch the sunset, with light snacks and drinks, are also available.

The lodge’s restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, with menus featuring a range of local dishes and international favourites. There’s a verandah where guests can eat al fresco or just relax and take in the desert views. There’s also has an indoor lounge with African decor, and a shop selling sundries and souvenirs.

The lodge welcomes children of all ages. Four of the chalets are a bit larger than the others and come with four beds each, ideal for families. Three of the campsites also work well for anyone travelling with youngsters.

  • We had such a good holiday. You did a fantastic job!

The house in Marrakesh was ridiculous. We effectively had it to ourselves. The accommodation was borderline palatial.

I actually think that the time we had in Marrakesh was sufficient. We could potentially have done a day by a pool but I think we’d done enough souk-ing by the end of Day Two.

The hotel in the mountains was a shade more rustic than I was expecting, but all great fun. Stunning views. The guide / mule / cook team were excellent and our guide (Hassan) tailored the treks to our capabilities well. He was superb, and really made an effort with the kids. The second and third day of trekking were particularly good. Such an adventure for the kids.

All the logistics worked seamlessly. Every aspect went like clockwork. Top marks. The advice on tipping was also much appreciated (I hate thinking that I’m getting mugged off or am potentially not giving enough…).

    From my seven-year-old son:

I thought it was GREAT. The food was amazing and the culture was very interesting. My favourite bit was scrambling up rocks in the Atlas Mountains.

In retrospect, I’d probably do the trip in reverse. Flopping on the roof terrace after the rigours of the mountains would have been even more satisfying.

  • We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths.

Will be a trip we remember forever
