La Cle des Montagnes is a charming guesthouse nestled on a picturesque working vineyard. It’s located just a few minutes’ walk from the centre of Franschhoek, a pleasant town known for its ample wine production industry and top-quality restaurants. This stylish and spacious property offers exceptional hospitality, attentive service and comfortable accommodation.

There are just five rooms in total, lending the guesthouse a pleasant and peaceful feel. On the ground floor of the building there are two Garden Rooms that look out onto the lodge’s pool and beautifully-presented gardens; there’s also the Courtyard Room that's positioned right beside one of the two courtyard areas. Up in the first-floor attic, there are two Petite Rooms, each of which is designed to be comfortable and cosy. All five of the guestrooms are tastefully presented, combining modern conveniences and trends with touches that pay homage to the area’s heritage and history. While the five rooms are usually booked individually, it is possible to book all five as a group and effectively exclusively take over the entire guesthouse.

La Cle des Montagnes places a great emphasis on good food, with a team of two chefs work together to produce menus that are creative and inspiring. Breakfasts are included, but it’s extra for lunch and dinner. Alternative dining options such as private fine dining, picnics and chef’s table dinners are sometimes available upon request. There’s a communal lounge area for guests to unwind and socialise, as well as two open courtyard areas. Other on-site facilities include a well-stocked library, a swimming pool and a tennis court. Concierge services are available free of charge and bicycles can be hired for no extra cost, though they’re subject to availability. There are plenty of vineyards to explore, opportunities for wine-tasting and much to learn about wine production in general.

Families are welcome and rooms separate from parents must be booked for children of 12 years and above. There are plenty of family friendly activities available both on-site and in the local area ranging from board games, baking and hiking to horse riding. Babysitting services can be arranged for an extra cost.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
