This holiday begins and ends in Las Vegas, where you can cruise the strip, visit casinos and take in a show. If time allows, you can also test out your nerves on the New York New York roller coaster or even see the strip from up high from a helicopter. From Vegas, you then head to the National Parks of Zion & Bryce. Zion offers vertigo-inducing hikes, hanging gardens and vast vistas. Bryce is home to the unique hoodoo rock formations which you can witness on foot or on horseback. In the evening, make sure you don't miss one of the traditional rodeos.
You then continue on to the independent and laid-back town of Moab, the original home of adventure sports in Utah. Here we suggest a guided hike deep into Arches National Park and a day out on the Colorado river, hitting the rapids. There is also time to take in a spot of mountain biking or visit Dead Horse State Point, where Thelma and Louise filmed their last goodbye. In the evenings, Moab is home to plenty of independent restaurants and also has a fantastic micro-brewery.
Leaving Utah, you then head to Monument Valley, made famous for the starring roles (alongside John Wayne) in the Spaghetti Westerns. A guided tour awaits you here, which will be conducted by a local member from the Navajo nation.
You then head straight one of the wonders of the world; the Grand Canyon. Here you can admire the views on foot, or take a helicopter ride for a bird's eye view. From the Grand Canyon, you then join the route 66, the original road-tripping route. Cruising the route for a couple of hours, we suggest a diversion to the Skywalk at Grand Canyon West to visit the glass walk way over the Canyon.
Your holiday ends, as it began, in Las Vegas. For your last night, you might want to visit a show or perhaps put the remainder of your holiday budget on number 7.
Please note, this trip is entirely customisable. We can extend this trip to 3 weeks, or add an extension to Los Angeles if required. Please contact us for details.
DAY 2: LAS VEGAS
Today is a day to yourselves in the original Sin City. Cruise the strip, visit casinos and stay up all night in the city of neon. If you want help booking tickets to see one of the many shows on offer, please get in touch.

DAY 3: ZION NATIONAL PARK
Today you leave Nevada and drive to Springdale, the gateway village for Zion National Park. You may want to head into the park in the afternoon for a hike, there are plenty to choose from, or you could choose a more relaxing float trip down the river, watching the turkey vultures soaring high above you as you meander down-stream.
Driving Time (where relevant): 2 1/2 hours
DAY 4: ZION NATIONAL PARK
Today is spent exploring Zion, we suggest going for one of the many self-guided hikes on offer. The visitor centre has plenty of information about the various walks on offer. Cars are not permitted on most of the roads within the park, so you will need to catch a shuttle bus which will drop you off at the various trailheads. Popular choices include the Angels Landing Hike (not recommended for those who hate heights) Emerald Pools or the Narrows hike, which is up a river. (You can hire water-proof shoes for this or wear sturdy water-proof sandals) In the height of summer, these are popular walks and it will be hot, so we recommend an early start and taking plenty of water and food with you.

DAY 5: BRYCE CANYON NATIONAL PARK
The scenic drive today takes you through Zion, passing through some stunning landscapes; there will be plenty of opportunities for photo stops along the way. Once you arrive, we suggest you go and explore the best of what Bryce Canyon has to offer. The stunning colours and unique ‘hoodoo’ rock formations are truly impressive. As ever with the popular national parks, an early start is highly recommended to beat the crowds. Most people explore by car and then go on one of the many hikes on offer. With a higher altitude than Zion and consequently slightly lower temperatures, this is a more comfortable place to hike. You may want to take a picnic and find a solitary spot from where you can take in the magnificent views. If you want something different, there are horse rides available, which take you to the canyon floor, away from the crowds. In the evening, you might want to go to watch a rodeo at the entrance to the park.
Driving Time (where relevant): 1 1/2 hours
DAY 6: BOULDER
Today you drive to Boulder to stay in a small lodge in the mountains. You will pass through Escalante, where you can stop for a day of slot canyoning. The lodge over-looks a nature reserve and has some lovely communal areas, so is the perfect place to sit back with a good book and enjoy the scenery. Volleyball, Frisbee and board games are on offer, or for the more sedentary, there is a hot tub. Each room has a TV & DVD player, with DVDs on loan from Reception. There are also some lovely local walks, including a hike to a waterfall . There are maps available at the lodge office.
Driving Time (where relevant): 1 1/2 hours
DAY 7: DRIVE TO MOAB
Today you will drive along one of the area’s most scenic roads to reach the highway that will connect you to Moab. Driving through the mountains and then Capitol Reef National Park, the views are amazing. You might choose to stop off in Capitol Reef Park for a hike, or just detour to one of the many viewpoints along the way. There are some interesting petroglyphs to see which makes for a useful stop to stretch your legs. If you are not stopping off to hike, there is a great burger stop (try the chocolate milkshakes) in Hanksville. The drive from here to Moab becomes less interesting, but is fairly swift thanks to the highway that you will be joining. Once you reach Moab, you can have a swim at your hotel and then go for a meal in one of the many restaurants in the town.
Driving Time (where relevant): 3 1/2 hours
DAY 8: MOAB - FIERY FURNACE GUIDED HIKE
This morning you will get up early to go and meet your guide, who will take you for a guided hike in the fiery furnace in the spectacular Arches National Park. This hike is only available as a guided option and takes you away from the crowds of tourist to hidden arches and a unique landscape. Your experienced guide will explain the geology to you and walk you through this fascinating rocky labyrinth.
The rest of the afternoon, you may want to explore the park in more detail before going for your pre-rafting trip briefing. On the way back, you might want to stop off at the Moab Brewery for dinner, where there is a fantastic array of craft beers to try.
Driving Time (where relevant)): 15 minutes
DAY 9: WHITE WATER RAFTING ON THE COLORADO RIVER
You will meet with your guide and leave your car before being to the launch site on the Colorado River. The boats will then be loaded up and you will head off down-stream. Once on the river, you will have a safety briefing and the guides will take time to teach you how to enjoy the big rapids safely. Then the fun really begins. Here are the incredible rapids you have been waiting for: Little Hummer, Funnel Falls, Last Chance Rapid, and of course, the infamous Skull Rapid. Lunch is a fresh buffet on the riverbank.
There will be chance to swim and enjoy the river as you float out of Westwater Canyon. The ride back to Moab will be filled with stories of the hole in 'Sock-It-To-Me' and the beautiful sunset the night before. The van returns you to Moab around 6-6:30 PM

Driving Time (where relevant): 4 hours
DAY 13: GRAND CANYON
Today is yours to explore the Grand Canyon. If you want to see it in style, then we can arrange a helicopter tour for you. For those who prefer keeping their feet on the ground, there are several walking trails that you can follow, or you might decide to hire bicycles. There are many ranger led activities on offer, from talks to more interactive programmes. If you fancy venturing below the rim, we can arrange a guided hike for you, although be warned that temperatures in the summer months do not make for comfortable hiking weather.

DAY 14: ROUTE 66 - LAS VEGAS
Today you will return to Las Vegas. We suggest you make a day of it and drive along a section of the ultimate road tripping route; the Route 66. I was also just about to email you to thank you and the team for arranging yet again, another wonderful experience.
Mount Kenya was spectacular and wild - I think I prefer it to Kili in many ways. The entire support team was professional, friendly and all round fantastic in making sure that we were safe, well fed and well looked after. In particular, we would commend Peter the guide as well as Paul one of the porters who doubled-up as his deputy on summit day. Our route was often shrouded in mist and rain that rapidly gathered in the valleys and moorlands, and we were very impressed at how Peter managed to navigate us safely through all of that notwithstanding. In addition, we loved learning about the history of Mount Kenya from him in the evenings. And ofcourse, I was blown away by the lovely birthday surprise at the end complete with balloons and a delicious cake that had journeyed with us from day 1. One thing we might recommend because of the sudden change in weather (it would sometimes get extremely cold and wet) is for the equipment list to be a little bit more detailed in terms of its recommendations e.g. layers to be moisture-wicking, walking boots be waterproof, doubling up on socks to avoid blisters etc.
El Karama is a beautiful conservancy and the lodge a true labour of love. Great hospitality in a relaxed environment. Delicious, fresh food. We enjoyed the drives, even if we didn't see much wildlife as the heavens opened on us for the last two outings. However, since it was very much geared towards families, I am not sure if I would stay again without kids. That said, I think it was perfect for a 3d/2n stay post mountain, and a much better choice than flying to the masai mara given the limited time we had.
Our transits were smooth. Samuel the driver was always on time, drove safely and kept the vehicle clean.
So it was a brilliant experience and one which I certainly will cherish for some time to come. It was great to work with you for a third time, and I certainly hope it won't be the last

Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”
