Overview

Rhulani Safari Lodge is a traditional yet stylish retreat located amongst 75,000 hectares of bushveld, about three and a half hour’s drive away from Johannesburg and Pretoria. This luxurious and laid back property is situated in close proximity to the stunning, malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve, known for its abundance of wildlife. Well away from towns, cities and light pollution, Rhulani offers breath taking views and super-clear night skies.

The accommodation comprises just seven luxury chalets, each with folding doors opening out onto a private deck with plunge pool. All chalets come with a fridge, a fireplace for those rare nights when the cold seeps in, and air conditioning against the heat of the dry season. Each chalet has an en-suite bathroom with both indoor and outdoor showers and a large oval bath.

Rhulani’s main lodge has a relaxed, cosy feel. Indoors and outdoors merge effortlessly and there are magnificent views of both the bush and the indoor rock pool. There’s a lovely pool and spa, and massage treatments can be enjoyed in the privacy of chalets or private decks. Animals can be seen coming to drink at the waterhole near the lodge, and al fresco evening dining in front of the camp fire is a real treat. Educational stargazing sessions are also offered under the gleaming night skies.

Activities naturally centre around the superb game viewing in the vicinity. Game drives in open Land Cruisers are on offer, along with excursions on foot with experienced game rangers. Madikwe is one of the best places in South Africa to catch a glimpse of the elusive wild dog, as well as lions, elephants, buffalo, and, if lucky, leopards. With over 350 different species of bird in the area, this is a great choice for birdwatching enthusiasts.

Children are more than welcome and there's a designated 2-bedroom family suite. There's a playroom fully equipped with toys, art supplies and DVDs to keep youngsters entertained, and a babysitting service is available. Parents should note that due to Rhulani’s rural, unfenced location, children must be supervised at all times.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
