Chada Katavi is a well-established tented camp in the Katavi area of Western Tanzania. A traditional, seasonal camp, Chada Katavi is of the highest quality and enjoys a prime location of untouched beauty.
Set in the heart of Katavi National Park, this camp is about as remote as you can get and offers a superior standard of hosting and game viewing. The lengthy journey to get to such a secluded spot is worth it for the unbelievable game viewing, outstanding natural beauty and authentic experience that Chada camp provides.
Known as one of the wildest areas on earth, it comes as no shock that Katavi offers some of the best game viewing. Run by Nomad Tanzania, a long established safari operation with a reputation for excellent safari guiding, guests can enjoy both game drives and bush walks in this untouched wilderness. Day and night game drives are taken in 4x4 vehicles with professional guides and promise viewings of great herds of Buffalo, hippos, leopards, crocodiles and elephants. With extremely low visitor numbers and the opportunity to venture off road this is one of the finest safari experiences.
An exclusive camp, there are only six spacious safari tents that are simple and traditional in style. Light and airy, with large double beds and sophisticated furnishings, all the Meru tents have wooden front facing verandahs and ensuite bathrooms with safari style bucket showers. Guests are also encouraged to walk out to their own fly camp and spend a night under the stars.
The experience is not suited to very young children and therefore the camp welcomes children 12 years old and over. This allows the whole family to participate in the bush walks and game drives and these can be adapted to suit the interests and attention span of the children. Meal times and menus can be adapted to suit children and babysitting services are available.
Conscious to fit in with the natural world around it Chada Katavi is by no means decadent, but a stylishly simple bushcamp that looks after your every need. For couples or older families looking for a truly authentic experience that stays off the beaten track, this would make an excellent choice.
We had such a good holiday. You did a fantastic job!
The house in Marrakesh was ridiculous. We effectively had it to ourselves. The accommodation was borderline palatial.
I actually think that the time we had in Marrakesh was sufficient. We could potentially have done a day by a pool but I think we’d done enough souk-ing by the end of Day Two.
The hotel in the mountains was a shade more rustic than I was expecting, but all great fun. Stunning views. The guide / mule / cook team were excellent and our guide (Hassan) tailored the treks to our capabilities well. He was superb, and really made an effort with the kids. The second and third day of trekking were particularly good. Such an adventure for the kids.
All the logistics worked seamlessly. Every aspect went like clockwork. Top marks. The advice on tipping was also much appreciated (I hate thinking that I’m getting mugged off or am potentially not giving enough…).
From my seven-year-old son:
I thought it was GREAT. The food was amazing and the culture was very interesting. My favourite bit was scrambling up rocks in the Atlas Mountains.
In retrospect, I’d probably do the trip in reverse. Flopping on the roof terrace after the rigours of the mountains would have been even more satisfying.

We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths. Will be a trip we remember forever
