Maramboi Tented Camp is located in the Lake Manyara area of Northern Tanzania. A large camp with access to both Tarangire and Manyara National Parks, this beautiful conservation area provides impressive scenery and reliable wildlife viewing.
The main house has a thatched roof and fantastic views of the plains. The lounge and dining areas are great places to relax surrounded by palm trees and looked after by attentive staff. The camp also offers a particularly lovely swimming pool with views across the bush.
Although the game viewing here is not as diverse as other reserves, it is reliable and includes great access to the migration corridor between the two national parks. Game drives are taken in private vehicles with private access to the southern sector of the reserve, meaning busy roads can be avoided. The nearby Lake Manyara offers excellent bird viewing opportunities. Flamingos, egrets and pelicans are here in abundance and guests can wade out across the flats for a closer look. Activities also include ‘Bush Sundowners’ on the shores of the lake and gentle nature walks with views of Rift Valley.
One of the larger camps on offer in Tanzania, Maramboi has 40 large guest tents. These permanent structures are surprisingly spacious inside and tastefully furnished with large beds and lots of light. Each en-suite tent has its own private veranda and 24-hour electric lighting. There is also the option of two interconnecting rooms, ideal for families.
Children of all ages are welcome and accommodated for at Maramboi, although specific activities and programmes are not offered. Parents should note that the camp is unfenced and while it’s unlikely that animals will approach tents or humans, they must supervise their children at all times.
This pleasant and restful camp is one of the most affordable in the area due to its larger size and offers a slightly different safari experience. For those with a keen interest in birds, Maramboi is highly recommended.
We had such a good holiday. You did a fantastic job!
The house in Marrakesh was ridiculous. We effectively had it to ourselves. The accommodation was borderline palatial.
I actually think that the time we had in Marrakesh was sufficient. We could potentially have done a day by a pool but I think we’d done enough souk-ing by the end of Day Two.
The hotel in the mountains was a shade more rustic than I was expecting, but all great fun. Stunning views. The guide / mule / cook team were excellent and our guide (Hassan) tailored the treks to our capabilities well. He was superb, and really made an effort with the kids. The second and third day of trekking were particularly good. Such an adventure for the kids.
All the logistics worked seamlessly. Every aspect went like clockwork. Top marks. The advice on tipping was also much appreciated (I hate thinking that I’m getting mugged off or am potentially not giving enough…).
From my seven-year-old son:
I thought it was GREAT. The food was amazing and the culture was very interesting. My favourite bit was scrambling up rocks in the Atlas Mountains.
In retrospect, I’d probably do the trip in reverse. Flopping on the roof terrace after the rigours of the mountains would have been even more satisfying.

We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths. Will be a trip we remember forever
