The highly sophisticated LUX* Grand Gaube opened in December 2018, the latest addition to the high-end LUX* Resorts and Hotels chain. Located along the northern coast of Mauritius, the hotel was created in collaboration with renowned interior designer Kelly Hoppen and has a distinctly retro-chic feel. The wonderful facilities include a state-of-the art gym, a pristine golf driving range complete with concierge service, a barber shop, a hair and nail salon, not to mention the luxurious spa offering lovely treatments and a hammam, sauna and plunge pool.
There are eight room categories ranging from Superior Rooms to the beautiful LUX* Villas. All of the accommodation options come with particularly generous amounts of space and are designed to resemble residential beach villas, combining stylish touches with a comfy and homely atmosphere. All rooms are air conditioned and come with their own balcony or terrace from which guests can enjoy the picturesque Indian Ocean views. Mood lighting is provided, as is high-quality bedding and a 55-inch LED TV; other amenities common to all rooms include a minibar, universal electric sockets and a coffee machine featuring the resort’s very own blends. En-suite bathrooms feature twin vanities, as well as a separate shower and toilet.
The diverse line-up of experiences range from adrenaline-pumping activities such as water skiing, windsurfing, kite surfing, scuba diving and swimming with dolphins to laid-back boat trips and the hire of water toys to splash about with. For those preferring dry land, there are horse riding excursions and energetic beach volleyball matches, along with outdoor painting classes and calming yoga sessions. The helicopter flights which take off from the resort’s own grounds provide breath taking birds-eye views of the island and are a genuine highlight. There are also two sizeable swimming pools and access to two very pleasant and peaceful beaches.
There are various bar and dining options, from casual beachside meals to sophisticated fine dining experiences. There’s a broad range of world cuisines, from Peruvian and Argentinian fare, to Turkish, Creole, Mediterranean and more. There’s a coffee shop where locally sourced beans are roasted on site, a delightful open-air restaurant with live cooking stations, and even a cocktail bar fashioned out of a Citroën H van set underneath an ancient banyan tree.
Children are welcome and there are several suites designed especially for families. Youngsters can take part in many of the activities on offer and child friendly meals are available.
We had such a good holiday. You did a fantastic job!
The house in Marrakesh was ridiculous. We effectively had it to ourselves. The accommodation was borderline palatial.
I actually think that the time we had in Marrakesh was sufficient. We could potentially have done a day by a pool but I think we’d done enough souk-ing by the end of Day Two.
The hotel in the mountains was a shade more rustic than I was expecting, but all great fun. Stunning views. The guide / mule / cook team were excellent and our guide (Hassan) tailored the treks to our capabilities well. He was superb, and really made an effort with the kids. The second and third day of trekking were particularly good. Such an adventure for the kids.
All the logistics worked seamlessly. Every aspect went like clockwork. Top marks. The advice on tipping was also much appreciated (I hate thinking that I’m getting mugged off or am potentially not giving enough…).
From my seven-year-old son:
I thought it was GREAT. The food was amazing and the culture was very interesting. My favourite bit was scrambling up rocks in the Atlas Mountains.
In retrospect, I’d probably do the trip in reverse. Flopping on the roof terrace after the rigours of the mountains would have been even more satisfying.

We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths. Will be a trip we remember forever
