DAY 4: WATERBERG
Waterberg is a stunning wilderness plateau offering excellent trekking and some rare wildlife species. Located between Etosha and Windhoek, the Waterberg is a convenient stopping point and offers fantastic hiking opportunities from shot day treks to multi day adventures. Due to its isolation, there are some unique and rare wildlife species here such as sable and roan antelope, however due to the thickness of the bush, this can be hard to spot. Game drives can be arranged, but the real attraction is slowing down and perhaps picking off one or two of the there are nine short trails around the vicinity of the camp.
Accommodation: Waterberg Plateau Campsite
DAY 5: DRIVE TO WESTERN ETOSHA (APPROX 3HRS)
Etosha National Park is one of Africa’s finest safari destinations and certainly one of the best places to spot the big five. During the dry season, waterholes teem with wildlife and the park is incredibly accessible for self-drive making it also one of the most affordable safari options in Africa. Etosha is characterised by vast and dusty chalk-white plains. Designed with self-drive visitors in mind, the tarmac roads are well sign-posted, and what the park may lack in authentic safari feel, it makes up for with ease of access, affordability, a good variety of accommodation, and incredibly rich wildlife centred largely on the parks’ prolific waterholes. Rare black rhino thrive, along with elephant, giraffe, eland, blue wildebeest, zebra, impala, and more. There’s an abundance of big cats, and an array of impressive birdlife to enjoy from ostriches and secretary birds, to vultures, hawks, and the beautiful and endangered blue cranes.

Riverdance has excellent relations with the local community and the village tours are also highly recommended.

Accommodation: Namushasha River Lodge
DAY 13: OPTIONAL GAME DRIVE IN BWABATA NATIONAL PARK
The Caprivi Strip is a narrow strip of land connecting Namibia with Victoria Falls. After years of instability it is now an exciting up an coming safari destination. The Caprivi Strip is a wetland area flanked by the Zambezi and Kwando–Linyandi–Chobe river sytems and is a real up and coming wildlife destination. It offers a similar habitat to the exclusive Kwando / Linyanti area of Botswana, but for a fraction of the cost. Today enjoy a game drive in Bwabata National Park and optional cruise on the Kwando River.

Today involves crossing the border from Namibia into Botswana, an easy and pleasant border crossing that doesn't usually provide many delays.

DAY 17: VICTORIA FALLS
We usually recommend a stay of 2-3 nights at Victoria Falls, the largest waterfalls in the world. The Falls are the main attraction here, but the area makes for a relaxing destination with a range of activities, from visiting the Falls themselves, swimming in Devil's Pool at the head of the Falls (Zambia side), sunset cruises, safari-lite activities and a range of adrenaline activities.
Below the falls, the Zambezi Gorge is a world famous rafting spot, but above the Zambezi is broad and languid and relaxed canoe trips on the upper Zambezi are recommended.

The months from June to September are winter in Southern Africa but temperatures during the day reach very comfortable early 20 degrees Celsius, just pretty chilly at night but you can keep comfortable with various layers. This is the time of the least / no rainfall making the vegetation less dense and the game easy to spot. You could use a standard sedan vehicle for this journey but a 2x4 makes the trip more comfortable.
Autumn, April-May tends to be a lovely time with all the young being born and the vegetation still green. Spring, late September into early November can have variable weather depending on the previous rainfall but offers excellent game viewing
The summer months November to March tend to be the highest rainfall which is generally when a 4x4 vehicle is suggested; it tends to be hot and humid with afternoon thunderstorms.
This trip is best suited to adventurous types who have previously visited Namibia and done the classic Namibian circuit covering Sossusvlei and Etosha.
