Overview

The Zambezi Sun Hotel is located on the eastern side of the Victoria Falls (one of the Seven Wonders of the World) on the Zambian side. The resort complex is built along the edge of the Zambezi River and guests have direct access to the Victoria Falls on foot.

The hotel has the feel of a centuries-old walled city and comprises of open buildings in earthy colours with rambling clusters of rooms. The 212 en suite guest rooms are open and airy and are decorated in an African style. The rooms either spill outwards into the natural African bush, or face inwards into a vast, cool, landscaped pool with private, shaded balconies offering guests a place to unwind, relax and enjoy Africa’s greatest natural wonder.

The restaurant and bar area are situated in the centre of the hotel next to a curving swimming pool frequented by vervet monkeys.

A vast number of activities can be arranged at the activity centre at the hotel: guests can enjoy game drives in the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park or picturesque early morning or sunset river cruises on a 12-seater boat. A cultural tour of Livingstone, including a visit to the museum and the Simonga Village, is a must for guests to this area as well as a guided tour of the Victoria Falls and rainforest on the Zambian Side. A shopping tour in Livingstone town also provides an opportunity to experience the local flavour of Livingstone while guests may also enjoy fishing on the Zambezi River. A variety of adrenaline activities are available which include white water rafting, canoeing, helicopter and microlight adventures, horseback safaris, elephant back safaris and lion walks, bungee jumping and a gorge swing.

  • We had such a good holiday. You did a fantastic job!

The house in Marrakesh was ridiculous. We effectively had it to ourselves. The accommodation was borderline palatial.

I actually think that the time we had in Marrakesh was sufficient. We could potentially have done a day by a pool but I think we’d done enough souk-ing by the end of Day Two.

The hotel in the mountains was a shade more rustic than I was expecting, but all great fun. Stunning views. The guide / mule / cook team were excellent and our guide (Hassan) tailored the treks to our capabilities well. He was superb, and really made an effort with the kids. The second and third day of trekking were particularly good. Such an adventure for the kids.

All the logistics worked seamlessly. Every aspect went like clockwork. Top marks. The advice on tipping was also much appreciated (I hate thinking that I’m getting mugged off or am potentially not giving enough…).

    From my seven-year-old son:

I thought it was GREAT. The food was amazing and the culture was very interesting. My favourite bit was scrambling up rocks in the Atlas Mountains.

In retrospect, I’d probably do the trip in reverse. Flopping on the roof terrace after the rigours of the mountains would have been even more satisfying.

  • We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths.

Will be a trip we remember forever
