Overview

&Beyond Vamizi is a luxury resort located on private Vamizi Island off the northeastern coast of Mozambique. This stunningly beautiful island is one of over thirty that make up the Quirimbas Archipelago, a chain of Indian Ocean islands stretching from Quirimbas National Park right up to Mozambique’s border with Tanzania. The archipelago has a secluded feel but is nonetheless a hotspot for local conservation and ecotourism projects, and an idyllic and relaxed beachside hideaway.

There are six &Beyond Vamizi villas to be found on the island, spaced well apart from one another for privacy. Each villa is different in layout and character, though all offer plenty of space, natural light and all the modern conveniences necessary for a hassle-free stay. Some of the villas have their own swimming pool. Decor comprises earthy tones, wood furnishings and palm-thatch roofs helping the villas to blend in harmoniously with their unspoiled island surroundings.

There’s a great deal of water-based activities to enjoy from snorkelling, deep sea fishing and scuba diving, to sailing, kayaking and traditional Dhow cruises. The waters are literally teeming with marine life: more than 180 coral species and over 400 fish species have been observed here. Seasonal activities include whale-watching and watching turtles come ashore to lay their eggs in the sand. Back on dry land, there are guided nature walks and educational visits to meet members of the local communities and learn about their traditions. When not out exploring, leisurely strolls on the powdery beaches or relaxing with some in-room spa treatments are not to be missed.

Children of all ages are welcome. All six villas are family friendly, with enough bedrooms to comfortably accommodate younger ones. The great fun, yet enriching and educational, WILDChild programme has a range of age-appropriate experiences, activities and expeditions for children to participate in. Due to the waterside nature of the accommodation, parents are reminded to ensure that their children remain under constant adult supervision.

  • We had such a good holiday. You did a fantastic job!

The house in Marrakesh was ridiculous. We effectively had it to ourselves. The accommodation was borderline palatial.

I actually think that the time we had in Marrakesh was sufficient. We could potentially have done a day by a pool but I think we’d done enough souk-ing by the end of Day Two.

The hotel in the mountains was a shade more rustic than I was expecting, but all great fun. Stunning views. The guide / mule / cook team were excellent and our guide (Hassan) tailored the treks to our capabilities well. He was superb, and really made an effort with the kids. The second and third day of trekking were particularly good. Such an adventure for the kids.

All the logistics worked seamlessly. Every aspect went like clockwork. Top marks. The advice on tipping was also much appreciated (I hate thinking that I’m getting mugged off or am potentially not giving enough…).

    From my seven-year-old son:

I thought it was GREAT. The food was amazing and the culture was very interesting. My favourite bit was scrambling up rocks in the Atlas Mountains.

In retrospect, I’d probably do the trip in reverse. Flopping on the roof terrace after the rigours of the mountains would have been even more satisfying.

  • We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths.

Will be a trip we remember forever
