La Cusinga Eco Lodge is situated just a short drive from the popular, tourist-friendly town of Uvita on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast. This simple yet characterful midrange property has ten comfortable cabins and is nestled within a private nature reserve that spans several hundred acres and encompasses beautiful sandy beaches, naturally formed pools, flourishing rainforest and a breath-taking abundance of wildlife. In fact, the stunning Ballena Marine National Park, one of just two of the country’s protected marine zones, borders part of the reserve. The lodge is actively involved in a number of local conservation efforts and adheres to various sustainability principles in order to minimise its impact on the local environment, and there’s a huge variety of water and land-based activities and adventures to be enjoyed in the area.
The ten comfortable cabins are constructed from fully sustainable, reforested wood. There are Single Rooms for solo travellers, Double Rooms with two queen size beds and the Family and Group Rooms, both of which have a queen size bed, along with five bunk beds, and are naturally ideal for larger parties. Finally, there’s the secluded Honeymoon Suite which comes complete with its own outdoor garden area. With the exception of the Honeymoon Suite, all rooms come with a private balcony with views of the rainforest or the ocean.
The activities on offer are many and varied. Exploring the Ballena Marine National Park is a real treat, with snorkelling and kayaking on offer and the chance to spot dolphins, turtles and possibly even whales. A visit to the Corcovado National Park is another ‘must’ – the park boasts wonderful, dense jungle and intense, vibrant wildlife which includes the elusive puma and jaguar, tapir, dart frogs and crocodiles to name but a few. The local birdlife is phenomenal and birdwatching walks are available, as are horseback rides to the spectacular Nauyaca Waterfalls. For the more energetic, there are also some more thrilling and physically challenging options such as zip lining, surfing and self-guided hiking trails.
It’s a genuine pleasure to relax ‘back at base’. The Aracari Restaurant is the lodge’s main eatery and is open for three meals a day, with an open-air seating area that offers captivating views of the natural surroundings. The focus here is on tasty, nutritious tropical dishes that are made with locally sourced ingredients. Yoga classes are on offer and there’s also the Cinnamon Spa with its range of revitalising and rejuvenating treatments, from hot stone massages and reflexology sessions to foot scrubs, mini facials and more.
Children of all ages are welcome, and the Ocean View superior rooms which house two queen size beds are ideal for families. The maximum number of guests per room is four, so families of five would need to take two rooms. There is a children’s menu, and plenty to do for all age groups, although do be prepared for age restrictions on some activities. Due to the remote, rural location of the lodge, parents are reminded to keep their children under constant adult supervision. Please note, there is no swimming pool at La Cusinga, but there is a swimming hole in the river running through the property.

The house in Marrakesh was ridiculous. We effectively had it to ourselves. The accommodation was borderline palatial.
I actually think that the time we had in Marrakesh was sufficient. We could potentially have done a day by a pool but I think we’d done enough souk-ing by the end of Day Two.
The hotel in the mountains was a shade more rustic than I was expecting, but all great fun. Stunning views. The guide / mule / cook team were excellent and our guide (Hassan) tailored the treks to our capabilities well. He was superb, and really made an effort with the kids. The second and third day of trekking were particularly good. Such an adventure for the kids.
All the logistics worked seamlessly. Every aspect went like clockwork. Top marks. The advice on tipping was also much appreciated (I hate thinking that I’m getting mugged off or am potentially not giving enough…).
From my seven-year-old son:
I thought it was GREAT. The food was amazing and the culture was very interesting. My favourite bit was scrambling up rocks in the Atlas Mountains.
In retrospect, I’d probably do the trip in reverse. Flopping on the roof terrace after the rigours of the mountains would have been even more satisfying.

We just wanted to thank you for an absolutely amazing holiday. Everything went exactly to plan and we were blown away with the quality of the guides, transport and accommodation. The itinerary was perfect for our family with a great mix of guided and free days and the different destinations complemented each other well. We will definitely be using Tourdust again for our next trip! Particular highlights were the Ha Long Bay cruise, Hanoi, and the morning cycle tour in Siam Reap

I would like to say a massive thank you for organising our Vietnam trip. The itinerary and execution were superb, as was the attention to detail. I would also like to thank the agent who was on the end of my whats app chat (I have no idea who they were!) – always available, always quick to respond, and kept me updated regarding times etc. Also, the guides Dan (north) and Tien (mid) were just excellent, and we really enjoyed their company. The lady (whose name I have forgotten) who was our additional guide for the DMZ day was exceedingly good and made that day very special.

Drivers and transfers were all good - on time and very good service on each trip.
Accommodation was lovely - Douar Samra was amazing (weather could have been better but lovely regardless). Riad in Marrakesh was also great!
All in all a great trip and we loved the variety of the mountains, Marrakesh and the coast.

I was also just about to email you to thank you and the team for arranging yet again, another wonderful experience.
Mount Kenya was spectacular and wild - I think I prefer it to Kili in many ways. The entire support team was professional, friendly and all round fantastic in making sure that we were safe, well fed and well looked after. In particular, we would commend Peter the guide as well as Paul one of the porters who doubled-up as his deputy on summit day. Our route was often shrouded in mist and rain that rapidly gathered in the valleys and moorlands, and we were very impressed at how Peter managed to navigate us safely through all of that notwithstanding. In addition, we loved learning about the history of Mount Kenya from him in the evenings. And ofcourse, I was blown away by the lovely birthday surprise at the end complete with balloons and a delicious cake that had journeyed with us from day 1. One thing we might recommend because of the sudden change in weather (it would sometimes get extremely cold and wet) is for the equipment list to be a little bit more detailed in terms of its recommendations e.g. layers to be moisture-wicking, walking boots be waterproof, doubling up on socks to avoid blisters etc.
El Karama is a beautiful conservancy and the lodge a true labour of love. Great hospitality in a relaxed environment. Delicious, fresh food. We enjoyed the drives, even if we didn't see much wildlife as the heavens opened on us for the last two outings. However, since it was very much geared towards families, I am not sure if I would stay again without kids. That said, I think it was perfect for a 3d/2n stay post mountain, and a much better choice than flying to the masai mara given the limited time we had.
Our transits were smooth. Samuel the driver was always on time, drove safely and kept the vehicle clean.
So it was a brilliant experience and one which I certainly will cherish for some time to come. It was great to work with you for a third time, and I certainly hope it won't be the last

Hi Lisa, We loved Costa Rica. The transfers worked amazingly well, Franx from Costa Rica Trails regularly checked that we were happy with everything and made sure we knew the transfer plans, the hotels were all very different. I wish we'd had an extra night in the Grano de Oro to give us a day in San Jose, it was a stunning hotel and felt wasted for the under 12 hours we were there. I very much got the feeling that the Evergreen Lodge was geared towards just a 2 night stay, which resulted in an awkward/funny moment in the 3rd evening when they presented us with specially prepared fish meals for the 4 of us "as we'd already had the 2 nights of the fixed menu and it was cycling round again" The Arenal Observatory Lodge was the star of the show, we absolutely loved it and would have gladly spent longer there time/budget allowing. The staff were brilliant throughout, the setting was breathtaking, the wildlife and walks were amazing and lots to do in the local area. The Gilded Iguana was the nicest hotel by a mile for facilities/appearance (fantastic service too) but Nosara was a little bit of a shock for us two oldies. Took us half a day to click into the feel of the place. Very Americanised, a little more lively than I was expecting. But grew to love it. We wouldn't rush back but the kids would, it was their highlight of the trip. As I said at the start, an amazing trip with lots of variety and superbly well organised. Thanks Stuart

Hi Lisa, We are waiting to board our flight to London but just wanted to say that we have had the most incredible holiday. Costa Rica is such a special place and we have loved the wildlife, outdoor adventures and especially the people. We were a little apprehensive before we arrived especially about travelling through the country but Tourdust made everything so easy and all the transfers were seamless. Thank you so much for all your help planning our trip of a lifetime and bearing with us as we deferred it time and again through the Covid years. Just need to save some pennies and then we’ll be in touch about our next trip!

Well overall it was an amazing trip and we really appreciated the guidance on places to go. On the ground, Victor was very helpful and we liked the mix of places.
The two stand out places and accommodations were Arenal Observatory Lodge and El Remanso - the latter being perfect in so many ways. The day trip to Cocovardo National Park was outstanding.
We enjoyed Tortuguero too - basic accommodation but excellent location and the guide there was outstanding.
Monte Verde was ok - average food, average place to stay.
With hindsight we’d skip Uvita altogether and go to Drakes Bay where snorkelling seems more accessible.Overall an excellent holiday, which went very smoothly and a good mix of things to do.
