EnquireFinca Rosa Blanca is an upmarket boutique lodge in a wonderful hillside location above San Jose, in the Central Valley area of Costa Rica. This family-run, eco-friendly property is surrounded by rainforest and national park, and commands sweeping views of the surrounding countryside from its elevated setting. Featuring striking architecture and original artworks and murals, this elegant and characterful retreat offers 14 individually decorated suites, a restaurant and a beautiful infinity pool, all nestled within nine acres of verdant tropical estate which also incorporates an organic coffee plantation. It’s a peaceful location, yet only 20 minutes from San Jose’s international airport.
Communal areas include an open-air bar and restaurant with candlelit tables and spectacular views over the Central Valley. Focussing on international dishes and local specialties, the menu is based on organic ingredients grown on the estate. There’s a library stocked with books and DVDs, and a small spa offering beauty treatments and massages. A delightful spring-fed infinity pool surrounded by loungers has lovely panoramic views of rainforest and distant volcanos. The owners are committed to sustainable tourism and the hotel promotes an eco-friendly ethos including use of solar power and extensive recycling. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.
Activities include tours of the coffee plantation, birdwatching and trekking in the surrounding unspoilt highlands. Nearby excursions include visits to Barva Volcano which is located on a ridge above the estate and offers incredible views as well as some strenuous hiking trails.
The accommodation comprises 14 individually designed and decorated spacious suites located either in the main building or within the grounds. Junior suites sleep up to three guests in one bedroom with a sofa bed in the living room, and a two-bed suite can accommodate four. Spacious ‘master’ suites sleep up to five, whilst for larger groups it’s possible to interconnect two suites to make a private ‘villa’ in order to accommodate six guests. All suites have a king size bed, a lounge area and a traditional bathroom with shower, and most come with a Jacuzzi bathtub. All units have telephones, hot drink facilities (including coffee grown on the estate), a minibar, and ceiling fans but no air conditioning; outside, there’s a tranquil and leafy private patio or veranda with spectacular rural views.
Children are extremely welcome at the Finca and although there are no specific facilities for little ones, the extensive grounds and lovely pool will appeal to guests of all ages. Two interconnecting suites can be privately booked as a one unit ‘villa’ which sleeps up to six, meaning plenty of space for larger families.
We had such a good holiday. You did a fantastic job!
The house in Marrakesh was ridiculous. We effectively had it to ourselves. The accommodation was borderline palatial.
I actually think that the time we had in Marrakesh was sufficient. We could potentially have done a day by a pool but I think we’d done enough souk-ing by the end of Day Two.
The hotel in the mountains was a shade more rustic than I was expecting, but all great fun. Stunning views. The guide / mule / cook team were excellent and our guide (Hassan) tailored the treks to our capabilities well. He was superb, and really made an effort with the kids. The second and third day of trekking were particularly good. Such an adventure for the kids.
All the logistics worked seamlessly. Every aspect went like clockwork. Top marks. The advice on tipping was also much appreciated (I hate thinking that I’m getting mugged off or am potentially not giving enough…).
From my seven-year-old son:
I thought it was GREAT. The food was amazing and the culture was very interesting. My favourite bit was scrambling up rocks in the Atlas Mountains.
In retrospect, I’d probably do the trip in reverse. Flopping on the roof terrace after the rigours of the mountains would have been even more satisfying.

We just wanted to thank you for an absolutely amazing holiday. Everything went exactly to plan and we were blown away with the quality of the guides, transport and accommodation. The itinerary was perfect for our family with a great mix of guided and free days and the different destinations complemented each other well. We will definitely be using Tourdust again for our next trip! Particular highlights were the Ha Long Bay cruise, Hanoi, and the morning cycle tour in Siam Reap
