Overview

Acajou is a low key, boutique beach resort situated on the stunning Cote D’Or beach in the north of Praslin Island, the second largest island in the Seychelles. Renowned for its pristine white sand beaches and unspoilt jungle interior, Praslin is home to an array of wildlife including giant tortoises and the endangered black parrot. This relaxed, friendly resort will appeal to travellers towards the higher end of the budget spectrum seeking space and tranquillity along with a superb beachfront location.

The peaceful resort is located on a beautiful 2km long white sand beach, only a few minutes’ walk from shops and eateries, and well placed for key attractions including the stunning Anse Lazio beach, and the Vallee de Mai, an ancient palm forest and UNESCO world heritage site.

Communal areas at Acajou include a lounge bar and the airy main restaurant, Les Boucaniers, which serves generous buffet breakfasts and an evening menu featuring international and French-Creole cuisine, along with regular musical entertainment. There is a gift shop onsite and a small but well- equipped gym, and a massage room. Outside, there’s a lovely infinity pool with loungers, and an adjacent pool bar and restaurant where informal lunches are served, plus drinks and snacks throughout the day. Room service is available during the day, and private dining, picnics, and romantic beach dinners can be arranged. The resort is committed to eco-friendly practices such as solar energy usage, water recycling, and composting.

The hotel provides additional sun loungers on the beach for guests, and the gentle turquoise waves are perfect for swimming and snorkelling. Further water-based activities such as diving and paddle boarding can be arranged locally, along with car and bike rental for anyone looking to explore further afield.

The accommodation comprises 46 rooms and six self-catering apartments located in one and two storey buildings within the tropical gardens. Rooms vary in size from the modest standard and superior options, to the larger deluxe rooms which offer generous living space and ocean views. All come equipped with a mini fridge, hot drink facilities, satellite TV, telephone, and Wi-Fi. Outside is a lovely private veranda with sun loungers and either sea or garden views. Six self-catering apartments are also available; these comprise one or two bedrooms, an open plan kitchen and lounge area and a private veranda with seating. Self-catering guests can opt for hotel breakfasts or half board meal plans.

Children of all ages are warmly welcome at Acajou. Standard and deluxe rooms can accommodate up to two adults and one child. Two spacious family units are also available, each suitable for up to four guests and featuring two bedrooms plus an en-suite bathroom with shower, basin, and WC. Cots and babysitting are available upon request. While the resort does not provide a designated kids activity programme, the generous gardens, inviting pool and wonderful beach will appeal to guests of all ages. Given the waterside nature of the property, parents are reminded to supervise their children at all times.

  • Trip was great and all the arrangements were excellent so thank you for all the help!

Drivers and transfers were all good - on time and very good service on each trip.

Accommodation was lovely - Douar Samra was amazing (weather could have been better but lovely regardless). Riad in Marrakesh was also great!

All in all a great trip and we loved the variety of the mountains, Marrakesh and the coast.

    Thanks you once again!

  • I was also just about to email you to thank you and the team for arranging yet again, another wonderful experience.

Mount Kenya was spectacular and wild - I think I prefer it to Kili in many ways. The entire support team was professional, friendly and all round fantastic in making sure that we were safe, well fed and well looked after. In particular, we would commend Peter the guide as well as Paul one of the porters who doubled-up as his deputy on summit day. Our route was often shrouded in mist and rain that rapidly gathered in the valleys and moorlands, and we were very impressed at how Peter managed to navigate us safely through all of that notwithstanding. In addition, we loved learning about the history of Mount Kenya from him in the evenings. And ofcourse, I was blown away by the lovely birthday surprise at the end complete with balloons and a delicious cake that had journeyed with us from day 1. One thing we might recommend because of the sudden change in weather (it would sometimes get extremely cold and wet) is for the equipment list to be a little bit more detailed in terms of its recommendations e.g. layers to be moisture-wicking, walking boots be waterproof, doubling up on socks to avoid blisters etc.

El Karama is a beautiful conservancy and the lodge a true labour of love. Great hospitality in a relaxed environment. Delicious, fresh food. We enjoyed the drives, even if we didn't see much wildlife as the heavens opened on us for the last two outings. However, since it was very much geared towards families, I am not sure if I would stay again without kids. That said, I think it was perfect for a 3d/2n stay post mountain, and a much better choice than flying to the masai mara given the limited time we had.

Our transits were smooth. Samuel the driver was always on time, drove safely and kept the vehicle clean.

So it was a brilliant experience and one which I certainly will cherish for some time to come. It was great to work with you for a third time, and I certainly hope it won't be the last

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”
