Overview

Marrakech is a city that you just can't help but fall in love with. Categorised as a Unesco World Heritage site, the focal point of the ancient medina is the world famous Djemma el Fna. The large square comes to life at night with food stalls, story tellers, snake charmers and acrobats. Away from the square, are the enticing souks, which consist of small winding roads full of colourful market stalls selling anything from slippers, to herbs and spices to ornaments. For the more culturally inclined, the ancient Bahia and Badi palaces offer an intriguing insight into how the imperial kings used to live. Here, you will be staying in a stylish boutique riad (Riad Dar Hanane), a luxurious retreat from the souks and busy medina with a central courtyard and roof terrace. The stunning High Atlas Mountains lie an hour and a half's drive from the Medina in Central Marrakech and provide a welcome contrast from the chaos of the City. Valleys are dotted with ancient Berber Villages consisting of simple mud houses built almost on top of each other. The views are magnificent, with arid valley sides, lush valley floors with sparkling mountain streams and of course the towering peaks that the range is renowned for. Here we recommend staying in Douar Samra, a a very tastefully developed traditional village building with gorgeous gardens and terraces and a genuine sense of authenticity. With plenty of time to relax, our mountain guides will take you on a gentle stroll for an unforgettable Berber picnic overlooking the majestic views. This is a fantastic opportunity to explore the villages and get an understanding of the traditional Berber way of life.

If you want to experience more of Morocco, then we recommend including a cooking class at La Maison Arab in Marrakech, a visit out to the Tinmal Mosque on the Tizi n Test pass and consider a multi-day trek to some of the more remote and traditional valleys and villages which can be done either in basic village accommodation or staying in serious comfort. Ask to include any of these options.

We always recommend our customers choose to stay in a traditional riad in the medina for the experience. This usually means they don't have a swimming pool (at most a small plunge pool). Likewise there are no hotels with pools in the High Atlas Mountains where the views are best and the villages most traditional. If you want some relaxed time by the pool, then we would recommend either swapping a riad for a stay at the lovely Les Cinq Djebellas (in the Marrakech Palmerie) or swapping Douar Samra for a stay at ultra chic Domaine Malika in the Ouirgane Valley in the Atlas Mountains.

When is best?

This holiday is possible any time of year.

The summer months can get very hot, but it is perfectly manageable. Spring and Autumn are arguably the best time of year, with wild flowers in spring and stunning vibrant red Walnut groves in late autumn.

Is it for me?

This is a relaxing itinerary staying at two of our favourite properties in Morocco, Riad Dar Hanane and Douar Samra. Both exude a contemporary and indulgent feel whilst maintaining a strong sense of place and authenticity and guarantee a warm personal welcome.

We include a gentle guided walk in the Atlas Mountains, which is an opportunity to enjoy the scenery, explore the traditional villages and experience Berber hospitality with a superb picnic. We are acclaimed for our multi-day treks in the Atlas Mountains and we use the same superb guide and cook teams for our gentle day walks. Your guide will suggest a walk suitable to you, whether you only want to walk 30 minutes or all day. Because the walk is tailored to your needs, there are no fitness requirements. If you are looking for more strenuous trekking, please take a look at our collection of multi-day treks in the Atlas Mountains.

  • Excellent service from the start, we were able to design exclusive the holiday we wanted. Combined trekking, a Riad in Marrakech and a bit of luxury by the pool in the Palmerie. Logistics all excellent and the staff on the ground were brilliant. Me, and my kids (15 & 12) were blown away by the catering when camping. Lunches in particular were a real treat. All 3 places we stayed in hotels were top notch. I really recommend all 3 - Kasbah du Toubkal, Riad Adore, and Le Duex Tours. All even better than the descriptions and photos. All the way through Tourdust were excellent and helped when flight times changed or I wanted to tweak our itinerary. Fast response and always helpful. Will definitely use again

  • Service rating : Tourdust have just been EXCELLENT - more than that intuitively perfect in helping me plan my 40th trip away with 15 girls (some who live in different countries!). No easy feat to manage. I really trusted their recommendations and they were not wrong in any way. Everything excelled my expectations of a wonderful trip of a lifetime. From collection at the airport to the amazing service we received via email and on our trip - everything was just perfect. The attention to detail was phenomenal and i just cant thank you enough. Some people on my trip had never experienced a trip like it and having the pre trip dossier and reassurance of using Tourdust definitely made our trip fun and relaxing in all ways. i could have planned and researched it myself but their on the ground experience made seamless planning for my group. i can't recommend them highly enough. THANK YOU TOURDUST
Product : RIAD ADORE in Marrakech is amazing. The staff were truly attentive and couldnt do more for us. The whole team need to be praised as each and everyone of them do a phenomanal job. The food they prepare and serve is just delicious and the riad's attention to detail and it's cleanliness made me feel like i was in a luxury 5 star hotel. thank you to Julianne, Mohammad (my hero after getting lost in the souks and coming to my rescue!) and Ibrahim for being fantastic front of house staff but also to the whole team who made our stay just magical. THANK YOU FOR MY BIRTHDAY CAKE! Marrakech i will be back and hope to stay with Pure Riads! THANK YOU x
