Experience the best of Tanzania's Northern Circuit on this superb family safari featuring a stunning camp perched on the rim of Ngorongoro Crater and an incredible private bush lodge deep in the Serengeti.
Throughout your safari you'll have a private guide and safari 4WD at your disposal with game drives in Lake Manyara National Park, Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti.
This safari is perfect for families seeking an exclusive safari experience and larger (multi-generational) family groups where the flexibility of having dedicated guides, vehicles and accommodation makes it so much easier to suit the needs of the whole family.
If you have time, we recommend extending this safari with 3-4 nights on the beautiful Island of Zanzibar. To compliment this level of safari, we would recommend the private island lodge at Mnemba Island Lodge or an oceanfront villa at Baraza Resot & Spa.
DAY 1: GAME DRIVE IN LAKA MANYARA NP ON ROUTE TO NGORONGORO HIGHLANDS
Pick up from Kilimanjaro International Airport or your Arusha hotel. Enjoy a game drive in Lake Manyara National Park. Drive west to the Ngorongoro Highlands, a perfect spot from which to explore the Crater tomorrow.
Accommodation: Entamanu Ngorongoro
DAY 2: NGORONGORO CRATER
Spend the morning discovering the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater and the fabulous wildlife with your private guide. After a picnic lunch in the Crater, head back up to camp. This afternoon you can relax and enjoy the view, or head out on a Highland walk with your guide - perhaps to meet the nearby Maasai.
Accommodation: Entamanu Ngorongoro
DAY 3: SERENGETI
Wave an early goodbye to Entamanu Ngorongoro as you set off for the Serengeti. Fly to the Serengeti. Settle into your private home away from home before a delicious lunch in the open dining room. Have a chat to your guide and house crew about what you would like to do - perhaps a gentle afternoon game drive before returning to camp in time for a hot shower and ice cold gin and tonic.
Accommodation: Mkombe's House
DAY 4: SERENGETI
Today you can do whatever you please - no need to fit into other peoples schedules here. We would suggest that after an early breakfast, you head out with your private guide to make the most of the day. Whether it is migration time and the herds gathering in a frenzy on the Mara River banks or the wildlife is peacefully spread out across the plains, it's always an unforgettable spectacle. Return for lunch in camp followed by a siesta and a swim to recharge batteries for an afternoon walk and sundowner.
Accommodation: Mkombe's House
DAY 5: SERENGETI
Enjoy another day of game drives in the Serengeti. Or you may just want to enjoy the magic of Mkombe's House and soak up the views by the pool. If you are with little ones send them out to learn about the critters just around the house with your guide. Lizards, hyraxes and all manner of wonderful creatures are waiting to be discovered.
Accommodation: Mkombe's House
DAY 6: FLY BACK TO ARUSHA
Catch the morning flight to Arusha for your onward arrangements

Due to the variability in flight costs, our prices are quoted excluding international flights. We usually arrange flights for most of our clients travelling to Tanzania and have good rates, but if you prefer to book your own or use air miles, we are happy to book ground arrangements and domestic flights for you.
There are no direct flights from the UK or US to Tanzania. Direct flights are available with KLM direct from Amsterdam, Turkish direct from Istanbul, Qatar from Doha, Etihad from Abu Dhabi and Emirates from Dubai. We usually find KLM and Turkish best for North American clients with just one stop in Amsterdam / Istanbul and an overall flight time approaching 22 hours.
Kenya Airways via Nairobi is another good option with direct flights from London Heathrow into Nairobi and a short hop onto Tanzania.Qatar is an excellent option if you are combining a safari with Zanzibar as it has direct flights to/from Kilimanjaro Internatonal Airport and Zanzibar Airport, meaning you can do the outbound and return flight with just one stop to many International destinations.
This sample itinerary includes scheduled domestic flight (Manyara to Serengeti & Serengeti to Arusha), private vehicle and guide throughout, all park fees, all meals, house drinks, laundry and shared activities (4x4 game drives and short walks). It excludes non-house drinks and gratuities.
January, February, July, August, September and October are the dryest months, with the Christmas / New Year period and July / August period representing peak season in Tanzania, expect flight costs to be substantially higher and we advise booking in advance for the best choice of lodges.
We usually avoid the long rains that run through March, April and May. The typical pattern during this period are tropical downpours in the afternoon / evening that usually clear in the mornings. If this is the only time you can travel then it is usually possible to get a dry spell between 10am and 2pm for getting out on safari and of course rates tend to be lower.
The short rains bring some rain during November and early December, but the rains are much lighter and much less of an impediment.
This safari is suitable for family groups looking to experience the very best of Tanzania in comfort and privacy. It is perfect for those who desire a high degree of comfort without giving up on the quality of safari experience and the connection with the wilderness.
With a private house in the heart of the Serengeti, this is ideal for family groups who want a completely tailored and private experience. Mkombe's House is particularly well suited to multi-generational groups with space and accommodation and privacy for the whole family.

Trip was great and all the arrangements were excellent so thank you for all the help!
Drivers and transfers were all good - on time and very good service on each trip.
Accommodation was lovely - Douar Samra was amazing (weather could have been better but lovely regardless). Riad in Marrakesh was also great!
All in all a great trip and we loved the variety of the mountains, Marrakesh and the coast.
Thanks you once again!

I was also just about to email you to thank you and the team for arranging yet again, another wonderful experience.
Mount Kenya was spectacular and wild - I think I prefer it to Kili in many ways. The entire support team was professional, friendly and all round fantastic in making sure that we were safe, well fed and well looked after. In particular, we would commend Peter the guide as well as Paul one of the porters who doubled-up as his deputy on summit day. Our route was often shrouded in mist and rain that rapidly gathered in the valleys and moorlands, and we were very impressed at how Peter managed to navigate us safely through all of that notwithstanding. In addition, we loved learning about the history of Mount Kenya from him in the evenings. And ofcourse, I was blown away by the lovely birthday surprise at the end complete with balloons and a delicious cake that had journeyed with us from day 1. One thing we might recommend because of the sudden change in weather (it would sometimes get extremely cold and wet) is for the equipment list to be a little bit more detailed in terms of its recommendations e.g. layers to be moisture-wicking, walking boots be waterproof, doubling up on socks to avoid blisters etc.
El Karama is a beautiful conservancy and the lodge a true labour of love. Great hospitality in a relaxed environment. Delicious, fresh food. We enjoyed the drives, even if we didn't see much wildlife as the heavens opened on us for the last two outings. However, since it was very much geared towards families, I am not sure if I would stay again without kids. That said, I think it was perfect for a 3d/2n stay post mountain, and a much better choice than flying to the masai mara given the limited time we had.
Our transits were smooth. Samuel the driver was always on time, drove safely and kept the vehicle clean.
So it was a brilliant experience and one which I certainly will cherish for some time to come. It was great to work with you for a third time, and I certainly hope it won't be the last

Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”
