EnquireMooiplaas Guesthouse is a friendly, family-run establishment in the Klein Karoo region of South Africa’s Western Cape. 10km from the popular tourist town of Oudtshoorn, this rural guesthouse sits in a tranquil setting on a working ostrich farm. Offering spacious and stylish mid-range accommodation, a swimming pool and spectacular views, Mooiplaas provides a relaxing diversion from the bustling coastal Garden Route. The Klein Karoo contrasts verdant, fertile plain with the rugged peaks of the surrounding Swartberg, Langeberg, and Outeniqua Mountain ranges. Boasting sweeping panoramas, endless skies and a glorious climate, it is South Africa’s sunniest region, and home to a variety of game, including kudu, baboon, caracal, and the elusive leopard, along with abundant birdlife.
Communal areas include a traditional farmhouse dining room where guests enjoy breakfast and a four course evening menu, featuring local Karoo cuisine. Outside is a veranda for alfresco dining and a comfortable lounge area with relaxing sofas and superb views of the distant mountains. There is a good sized swimming pool with loungers, plus an expansive lawn, and an onsite spa. To the rear of the property is a children’s play area.
Activities include a fascinating tour of Mooiplaas’ ostrich farm, where guests can meet the resident ostriches and their young. It’s also possible to enjoy stargazing beneath stunningly clear skies, birdwatching, and nature walks, plus beauty treatments at the spa. Excursions further afield include the renowned Cango Caves, where visitors can wander amongst ancient and beautiful limestone caverns, or a visit to the Swartberg Mountain pass, famed for its incredible views. Horse riding, camel rides, and wine tasting excursions are available, whilst adrenalin seekers can tackle rock climbing, abseiling, and quad biking.
Accommodation comprises 29 well-appointed contemporary suites, spread out within the grounds. All units have air conditioning, free Wi-Fi and satellite TV. 21 suites sleep two guests in one double or twin beds, with a spacious lounge area, and a large bathroom with a separate bath and shower. Outside is a private veranda or balcony with wonderful views. Four suites feature an additional private kitchenette with a fridge, microwave, sink, hob, and cooking equipment. A private outdoor veranda contains dining furniture and barbeque equipment.
Families are extremely welcome. Children under two years of age stay free of charge, and there are discounts for under 12s. Four family units each sleep up to four guests, with one double bed and additional twin beds or a sofa-bed. Each unit has a lounge area, and a bathroom with bath and separate shower. Cots are available upon request. For larger families, two units can be interconnected to provide ample accommodation. All family units are on the ground floor, with private verandas overlooking the gardens and surrounding mountains. In addition to the generous grounds and swimming pool, a children’s outdoor play area provides swings and a jungle gym. Children’s menus and early dining are available, and babysitting can be arranged at an additional cost.
Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair

Can't praise tour dust enough, they helped us to create a holiday of a lifetime that has given us family memories we will treasure forever. From start to finish the whole experience was exactly what we wanted and more. Due to covid we waited 2 and a half years for this trip but worth the wait.
