Overview

Fynbos Ridge is a tranquil country house set within a private nature reserve in the famed ‘Garden Route’ area of the Western Cape, South Africa. Ideally located for the popular seaside towns of Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, this owner-run property offers stylish bed and breakfast accommodation in five tastefully appointed bedrooms, along with four self-catering units. Named after the vegetation indigenous to the region, Fynbos Ridge boasts a lovely outdoor pool, and acres of private estate ideal for hiking and nature walks, all with stunning views of the nearby Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma mountains.

Communal areas in the Cape Dutch style main house include two elegant lounges with log fireplaces, and an alfresco dining area with glorious mountain views, where breakfast is served. Evening meals may be arranged on request. Within the spacious grounds is a peaceful swimming pool with loungers, tennis courts, and an organic vegetable garden. The hotel is proud of its carbon neutral status, employing water conservation, solar heating, and recycling initiatives.

Activities on the estate include nature walks, tennis, swimming, and bird watching, with over 85 bird species identified to date. Massages and beauty treatments can be arranged in the privacy of your room, and art, cooking, and photography workshops are available on site. Locally, guests can enjoy hiking, mountain biking, and golf. A few minutes’ drive away, the wonderful beaches of Plettenberg Bay offer dolphin and whale watching boat excursions, along with surfing, diving, snorkelling and sailing. Nearby Knysna, famed for its Oyster Festival, has boat excursions on its stunning lagoon. Back on dry land, wine buffs can enjoy lunches and tastings at numerous local wine estates, whilst Knysna Elephant Sanctuary and Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary will appeal to animal lovers.

Accommodation within the main house comprises five spacious, well-appointed bedrooms with king or twin beds, and generous ensuite bathrooms. All rooms include a fridge and hot drink facilities, ceiling fans, TV, DVD player, and Wi-Fi. Several of the rooms boast a private balcony or veranda with sunset views.

Three self-catering cottages and one apartment are also available. Each tranquil cottage accommodates five guests in two bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, a lounge with log fireplace and a private veranda with a barbeque. The one bedroom apartment, sleeping two, is attached to the main house, with its own private entrance and balcony. All self-catering units have a fully equipped kitchen, alternatively, guests are welcome to dine at the main house by arrangement. A meal delivery service is also available.

Children are extremely welcome at Fynbos Ridge. One extra bed can be added to rooms in the main house, subject to arrangement, whilst the self-catering cottages are ideal for families.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
