Overview

Anantara Bazaruto Hotel and Spa is a smart, high-end resort on Bazaruto Island, one of five main islands in the beautiful Bazaruto Archipelago off the southern coast of Mozambique. It’s one of over forty-five properties in the international Anantara portfolio of luxury hotels and resorts. Despite the presence of several other settlements and resorts on the island, the property retains a pleasantly peaceful and private atmosphere. The excellent facilities include a tennis course, golf course, fitness centre, spa and two swimming pools and activities range from seasonal whale watching to cultural village visits and a whole heap of water sports from kayaking to deep-sea fishing. The marine life is nothing short of superb and the sparkling waters are filled with an abundance of colourful fish, dolphins and dugongs to name but a few.

There are no fewer than five different room categories to choose from. The Beach Villas and Beach Pool Villas offer direct access to the beach, while the latter comes with its own private plunge pool. The villas have an open plan design and can accommodate two adults and one child. Then there’s the Sea View Pool Villa, which is larger and has a separate living area, along with private outdoor space including a plunge pool. For larger groups, there’s the Deluxe Sea View Pool Villa, which can accommodate four adults and one child across its two separate bedrooms. The largest and most luxurious option of all is the Anantara Pool Villa, a lovely home-away-from-home that’s set apart in a secluded location and offers picturesque ocean views. All rooms across the resort are well presented and handsomely furnished. Some rooms have special added extras such as hammocks, floor-to-ceiling windows and private outdoor showers.

There are three main dining venues, one of which is right by the sea, with menus featuring an eclectic line-up of Mozambican, Portuguese and international dishes. Cookery lessons, private dining experiences and in-villa dining are also available. One of the two swimming pools is for adults only, and there’s also a state-of-the-art fitness centre and an award-winning spa with a good range of treatments on offer.

For those looking to keep active, there’s a tennis court and golf course, along with the opportunity to play beach volleyball. The resort even has its own mountain bike trail. Some of the many water-based activities include stand-up paddle boarding, water-skiing and kayaking. Visits to nearby islands can be arranged and activities such as whale watching (seasonal), scuba diving, snorkelling and deep-sea fishing can be incorporated into these. Dhow excursions, dune-boarding and horse riding are also popular pursuits. Those keen to explore Bazaruto Island further can enjoy guided 4x4 excursions which include wildlife viewing and village visits, along with sundowner drinks on the sand dunes to top off a memorable day.

Children of all ages are welcome – those aged 5 and under stay free of charge, those of 6 to 11 years of age receive a 50% discount on accommodation and activities (with the exception of scuba diving), and children of 12 years and above incur a full price charge for both accommodation and activities. One of the two swimming pools is for families to use, and there’s a children’s playroom for youngsters. Supervision can be requested at the activities centre free of charge and babysitting services are available for an additional fee. The Clube Naval water slide, which is strictly restricted to children under the age of 12, also incurs a small hourly fee and children will no doubt enjoy all the other water and land-based activities on offer in the area. Due to the waterside location of the property, parents are reminded to ensure that their children remain under constant adult supervision.

  • Trip was great and all the arrangements were excellent so thank you for all the help!

Drivers and transfers were all good - on time and very good service on each trip.

Accommodation was lovely - Douar Samra was amazing (weather could have been better but lovely regardless). Riad in Marrakesh was also great!

All in all a great trip and we loved the variety of the mountains, Marrakesh and the coast.

    Thanks you once again!

  • I was also just about to email you to thank you and the team for arranging yet again, another wonderful experience.

Mount Kenya was spectacular and wild - I think I prefer it to Kili in many ways. The entire support team was professional, friendly and all round fantastic in making sure that we were safe, well fed and well looked after. In particular, we would commend Peter the guide as well as Paul one of the porters who doubled-up as his deputy on summit day. Our route was often shrouded in mist and rain that rapidly gathered in the valleys and moorlands, and we were very impressed at how Peter managed to navigate us safely through all of that notwithstanding. In addition, we loved learning about the history of Mount Kenya from him in the evenings. And ofcourse, I was blown away by the lovely birthday surprise at the end complete with balloons and a delicious cake that had journeyed with us from day 1. One thing we might recommend because of the sudden change in weather (it would sometimes get extremely cold and wet) is for the equipment list to be a little bit more detailed in terms of its recommendations e.g. layers to be moisture-wicking, walking boots be waterproof, doubling up on socks to avoid blisters etc.

El Karama is a beautiful conservancy and the lodge a true labour of love. Great hospitality in a relaxed environment. Delicious, fresh food. We enjoyed the drives, even if we didn't see much wildlife as the heavens opened on us for the last two outings. However, since it was very much geared towards families, I am not sure if I would stay again without kids. That said, I think it was perfect for a 3d/2n stay post mountain, and a much better choice than flying to the masai mara given the limited time we had.

Our transits were smooth. Samuel the driver was always on time, drove safely and kept the vehicle clean.

So it was a brilliant experience and one which I certainly will cherish for some time to come. It was great to work with you for a third time, and I certainly hope it won't be the last

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”
