Overview

The iSimangaliso Wetland park World Heritage Site is one of the few natural wonders left on earth where there are unspoiled wilderness beaches, vast wetlands and game reserves all combined into one reserve. Makakatana Bay Lodge is a 4 Star property which is privately set in a dune forest, where it is hidden just meters away from the waters edge of the banks of the Lake St Lucia

Communal areas include an outdoor dining deck, boma for bush dinners and swimming pool. Guests are accommodated in 6 bright and spacious suites. Three of these are set in the dune forest and are frequented by friendly warthog, red duiker, nyala, bush babies, birds and hippo! One room has a view out through the bush onto a vlei and the other has a view through the bush onto the Lake. The Honeymoon suite is situated privately with views out onto a vlei. Large windows and terrace doors as well as mosquito gauze screen doors slide open onto private viewing decks, skilfully combining luxury and integration with the environment.

For guests staying 2-3 nights safari activities are included with typically a full day safaris exploring the wetlands by boat on one day and a second day exploring the coastline. Within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park the animals found include: Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo, Leopard, Hyena, Wildebeest, Zebra, Giraffe, Hippo, Crocodile and many other types of antelope.

Makakatana accepts children aged 6 and over (younger on request)

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair

  • Can't praise tour dust enough, they helped us to create a holiday of a lifetime that has given us family memories we will treasure forever. From start to finish the whole experience was exactly what we wanted and more. Due to covid we waited 2 and a half years for this trip but worth the wait.
