Overview

Coco de Mer and Black Parrot Suites is an upmarket resort situated above the 2km wide Bois de Rose beach on the southwest coast of Praslin Island, the second largest island in the stunning Seychelles. This contemporary hotel sits in extensive grounds with glorious sea views and offers a choice of spacious, well-appointed rooms and suites, two restaurants, a bar, spa, gym, two swimming pools and several private stretches of sandy beach, all overlooking the Indian Ocean.

Guest areas include a sleek bar and two restaurants. The informal Mango Terrace offers a la carte lunch and dinner menus from its relaxed poolside setting. The Hibiscus Restaurant focuses on buffet style dining with generous breakfasts and evening meals featuring a variety of international and creole cuisine, accompanied by regular musical entertainment. A smart casual dress code applies during the evening and dietary requirements can be accommodated on request.

The facilities include an onsite gym, a spa offering an array of treatments, and a small souvenir shop. There are also two inviting swimming pools with superb ocean views, and several private stretches of beach furnished with hammocks and sun loungers. Note that wind and tidal conditions can result in seaweed deposits along this stretch of coast between May and October. The carefully tended 200-acre grounds contain abundant fruit trees, flowering plants and palms including the indigenous Coco de Mer Palm, and are frequented by numerous birds, as well as fruit bats after dusk. Guests visiting between November and January might even witness turtles waddling ashore to lay their eggs in the sandy Bois de Rose beach.

The resort offers free bike hire, a great way to explore Praslin’s beautiful beaches and coves. In addition, a complimentary 30-minute shuttle transfer operates several times a week to Anse Lazio, a popular beach on the north east of the island. Scuba diving is available locally, along with deep sea fishing, and excursions to neighbouring islands.

The accommodation comprises contemporary and spacious rooms and suites, all with lovely ocean views. All rooms have king or twin beds, a relaxing lounge area, and a smart ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower and separate bathtub. Each room is equipped with hot drink facilities, a mini fridge, satellite TV, telephone, air conditioning, and ceiling fans. French doors lead onto a private or terrace with seating and lovely sea views. Superior rooms have extended outside living space with a wooden decked veranda and comfy seating.

Children are warmly welcome at the resort, though please note there is a minimum age restriction of 14 years for children staying in the Black Parrot Suites. Kids’ menus are provided at the restaurant and interconnecting rooms are available for families. Cots and highchairs can be provided, and babysitting is available upon request. Parents are reminded to keep children under adult supervision at all times.

  • We had such a good holiday. You did a fantastic job!

The house in Marrakesh was ridiculous. We effectively had it to ourselves. The accommodation was borderline palatial.

I actually think that the time we had in Marrakesh was sufficient. We could potentially have done a day by a pool but I think we’d done enough souk-ing by the end of Day Two.

The hotel in the mountains was a shade more rustic than I was expecting, but all great fun. Stunning views. The guide / mule / cook team were excellent and our guide (Hassan) tailored the treks to our capabilities well. He was superb, and really made an effort with the kids. The second and third day of trekking were particularly good. Such an adventure for the kids.

All the logistics worked seamlessly. Every aspect went like clockwork. Top marks. The advice on tipping was also much appreciated (I hate thinking that I’m getting mugged off or am potentially not giving enough…).

    From my seven-year-old son:

I thought it was GREAT. The food was amazing and the culture was very interesting. My favourite bit was scrambling up rocks in the Atlas Mountains.

In retrospect, I’d probably do the trip in reverse. Flopping on the roof terrace after the rigours of the mountains would have been even more satisfying.

  • We had an amazing experience - absolutely loved it.
Mohamed and Said were great and very patient especially with me going downhill - was quite nervous about the scree slopes and paths.

Will be a trip we remember forever
