Overview

Nambiti Hills Private Game Lodge is an upmarket safari lodge in a tranquil, picturesque location within the Nambiti Game Reserve in the Natal battlefields area of eastern South Africa. This comfortable, chic retreat offers nine stylish thatched suites, a panoramic viewing deck, a spa, and an inviting swimming pool. The 8,000 hectare, malaria-free Nambiti Reserve has a diverse terrain of riverine woodlands, grassy plains, and rocky peaks which are home to a variety of bird and wildlife, including the big five. The property will appeal to travellers seeking a chic, relaxing base off the beaten track.

The lodge’s airy, communal areas include a glass-fronted dining room, bar, and lounge with high thatched ceilings, wood burning fireplaces, and contemporary décor. Patio doors lead onto an extensive decked veranda with panoramic views over the surrounding hills and plains. There is a refreshing swimming pool flanked by loungers, and the two boma areas, with comfy seating and super views, are ideal for a sundowner.

Activities comprise morning and afternoon game drives, and fly fishing in the reserve dams, whilst keen ornithologists will enjoy spotting some of the area’s 260 bird species. Nambiti’s diverse wildlife includes the big 5 (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo) plus giraffe, cheetah, impala, hippo, and zebra. Flights over the imposing Drakensberg Mountains can be arranged, subject to additional cost. Or relax with a beauty treatment or massage at the lodge spa, for which advance booking is recommended.

The accommodation comprises eight spacious and well-appointed suites plus one sophisticated honeymoon suite, all featuring thatched roofs and tasteful, modern furnishings and décor. Each suite comprises a king-size four poster bed draped with mosquito nets, and a sleek ensuite bathroom with an outsize, freestanding bath and separate shower. An open-plan lounge area leads onto a private veranda with seating and lovely views. The larger ‘honeymoon suite’ has a particularly sophisticated feel and boasts a substantial lounge area along with an additional, indulgent outdoor shower. All units come with air conditioning and heating, a minibar, hot drink facilities, telephone, and Wi-Fi.

Families are welcome at the lodge, and each suite can accommodate up to two adults and two children. Guests under five years of age stay free of charge, and there are discounts available for children under 12 years of age when sharing with parents. While it is highly unlikely that wildlife would approach humans or suites, parents are reminded to keep their children under constant supervision.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
