Overview

Elandela Lodge and Private Game Reserve is an owner run safari lodge situated in a private reserve in the greater Kruger National Park area of northeast South Africa. The property sits above the Klaserie River, overlooking a lake popular with wildlife and super views of the imposing Drakensberg mountain range in the distance. The 4,000 hectare reserve is home to lion, leopard, white rhino, cheetah, hippo, buffalo, antelope, and crocodile, along with the rare white lion. In fact, the lodge owners participate in a conservation programme to protect these beautiful animals.

Communal areas include a comfortable lounge and bar area with a high thatched ceiling, and traditional South African furniture, artwork and decor. Sliding glass doors open onto lovely views of the river below and the Drakensberg Mountains on the horizon, which are particularly spectacular at sunset. Meals are served in the spacious, airy dining room, with a second smaller room available for private dining. Outside is a relaxing boma area with a fire pit where barbeques are regularly hosted. The lodge also has an inviting swimming pool complete with loungers and parasols.

Activities include guided walks and game drives in the private reserve, with the option for excursions into Kruger National Park. Night drives can also be arranged, subject to additional cost.

The accommodation comprises 17 well-appointed suites with thatched ceilings and tranquil lake or river views. Units vary in size from standard to the slightly larger deluxe, along with six spacious honeymoon suites. Each suite is traditionally furnished with twin or double beds, and an ensuite bathroom with shower, basin and WC. All units have air conditioning, ceiling fans, hot drink facilities and a minibar. A laundry service is provided, and in-room dining and massage services are available subject to arrangement. The substantial honeymoon suites boast four poster beds, a comfy lounge area, and an ensuite bathroom with a spa bath and both indoor and outdoor showers. Outside is a lovely private patio overlooking the lake.

Children of all ages are very welcome at Elandela, and discounts are offered for guests age 12 years and under. Several family suites are available, each comprising a double and a single bed, plus a lounge area and an ensuite bathroom with shower. For larger families or groups, a two-bedroom, interconnecting unit is offered. This unit comprises one double bedroom, a bathroom with shower, and a second bedroom with space for up to three single beds suitable for children. While it is unlikely that animals would approach humans, given the rural location of the lodge, parents are reminded to keep their children under constant adult supervision.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
