Amantaka is a flawless, high-end boutique resort boasting a superb blend of traditional Laotian and European colonial architecture. This pristine, almost regal, sanctuary is located in Luang Prabang, an ancient city and UNESCO World Heritage Site right at the heart of Laos. Though steeped in history, with many remarkably well-preserved buildings to discover, the city has a peaceful yet modern feel. The property belongs to the luxurious Aman hotel chain and is strategically located a short walk from both the Mekong and Nam Khan Rivers, not to mention the bustling night market.
Amantaka’s 24 opulent suites combine chic colonial and contemporary touches. The grand four-poster king sized beds, high wooden ceilings and secluded setting makes for supremely comfortable, spacious and private accommodation. Immersed in the resort’s lush surroundings, all suites feature plenty of outdoor space, with large windows looking out over picturesque views. There are five categories of suite, all are extremely well-appointed and some have their own private courtyard with pool.
Local dishes are served in the Dining Room restaurant, or lighter meals can be found at the Pool Terrace. Traditional Laotian barbecues are a popular feature, with live entertainment provided by a Niths dancing troupe. At the Lounge Bar guests can try house specialty drinks such as the ‘Laojito’ and the ‘Makkam’ and there’s a lovely spa offering a range of indulgent treatments from wraps and scrubs to traditional massages.
When it comes to exploring Luang Prabang, there’s a broad range of activities from private cruises along the Mekong River and visits to the city’s many Buddhist temples, to local village visits and excursions to the Pak Ou Caves, an important pilgrimage site whose interiors are home to a collection of several hundred intriguing wooden Buddha statues. Closer to hand are many bars, restaurants and shops, all within walking distance of the resort.
Children are welcome and a babysitting service is available. While there are no designated activities for younger family members, there’s plenty of space for them to let off steam in the pools and gardens.
We had such a good holiday. You did a fantastic job!
The house in Marrakesh was ridiculous. We effectively had it to ourselves. The accommodation was borderline palatial.
I actually think that the time we had in Marrakesh was sufficient. We could potentially have done a day by a pool but I think we’d done enough souk-ing by the end of Day Two.
The hotel in the mountains was a shade more rustic than I was expecting, but all great fun. Stunning views. The guide / mule / cook team were excellent and our guide (Hassan) tailored the treks to our capabilities well. He was superb, and really made an effort with the kids. The second and third day of trekking were particularly good. Such an adventure for the kids.
All the logistics worked seamlessly. Every aspect went like clockwork. Top marks. The advice on tipping was also much appreciated (I hate thinking that I’m getting mugged off or am potentially not giving enough…).
From my seven-year-old son:
I thought it was GREAT. The food was amazing and the culture was very interesting. My favourite bit was scrambling up rocks in the Atlas Mountains.
In retrospect, I’d probably do the trip in reverse. Flopping on the roof terrace after the rigours of the mountains would have been even more satisfying.

We just wanted to thank you for an absolutely amazing holiday. Everything went exactly to plan and we were blown away with the quality of the guides, transport and accommodation. The itinerary was perfect for our family with a great mix of guided and free days and the different destinations complemented each other well. We will definitely be using Tourdust again for our next trip! Particular highlights were the Ha Long Bay cruise, Hanoi, and the morning cycle tour in Siam Reap
