Overview

The Southern Sun O.R. Tambo International Airport Hotel is conveniently situated around 500 metres from the entrance of Johannesburg’s main international airport. It’s a decidedly contemporary hotel that offers a good range of amenities and facilities and is an ideal short-stay hotel for those flying in or out of the city. Not only is there a free shuttle service to the airport’s main entrance, there is also a hotel bus to the nearby Rhodesfield train station - this is part of the Gautrain commuter rail system that provides convenient transport links between the airport, Johannesburg, Ekhuruleni and Pretoria.

All of the hotel’s 366 air-conditioned rooms are well appointed and offer plenty of space. They come in the following four categories: Standard; Superior; Executive; and Family. All rooms, regardless of category, are handsomely decorated and well presented, with amenities including a flat-screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities, a hairdryer and an in-room safe. Both a porter service and a wake-up call service are readily available.

On-site there’s a well-equipped fitness centre and an outdoor pool. Buffet breakfasts are served in Bernoulli’s Restaurant, along with lunch and dinner from a Mediterranean-style menu. Nearby, Caroline’s Day Spa & Salon offers a range of treatments.

The centre of Johannesburg is roughly half an hour away by car from the hotel. It’s the largest city in South Africa and has an exciting line-up of attractions to cater to all tastes. The city is upbeat and eclectic in character, with several noticeably bohemian neighbourhoods, and while it pays homage to its rich past, it has its fair share of more modern offerings. For shopping, there are several expansive malls, along with a good number of lively, traditional flea markets. Throughout the city are a good number of theatres, galleries and other cultural hotspots, as well as a variety of eateries representing a broad selection of both national and international cuisine. Al fresco dining is especially popular here, thanks in part to the city’s favourable year-round climate.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
