Overview

A modern frontier farmhouse overlooking the sweeping Afromontane forests in the Kwandwe Private Game Reserve in South Africa, Melton Manor is an exclusive-use safari villa is ideal for families or small groups.

The four suites that constitute Melton Manor are located in the beautiful and historically rich Eastern Cape, surrounded by 22 000 hectares of exclusive, malaria-free wilderness home to the endangered 'Kwandwe' or blue crane, South Africa's national bird. Remote and rustic, the suites have en-suite facilitates, private decks opening out to the bush, a central courtyard, and inter-leading doors ideal for a family living experience.

When families can’t be found enjoying themselves at camp, it means they must be out together exploring the wilderness. Melton Manor offers guests the chance to tailor-make their activities to suit them, with private vehicles, guides, and trackers for flexible safaris. Whether by 4x4 or by foot, guests can head out onto the reserve to spot a variety of game such as the big five and other unusual species such as the porcupine, aardwolf or aardvark, and bush walks, where you can get 'up close and personal' experiences with wildlife. The Big Game Walking Safari offers the thrill of tracking rhinos, elephants and buffalo on foot, while fishing, boat trips, and volunteering activities at the Mgcamabele Community Centre can be organised in advance.

With a guide, guests can learn first-hand about the eco-system of the reserve, and pick flowers and plants that will be included in the mealtime preparation later. All meals are also tailor-made to fit the family who want to take a break from the open-plan kitchen, which provides the ideal venue for the interactive Campfire Cooking experience when not cooking outside.

The main lodge – a U-shaped structure housing all of the suites – features an unfenced swimming pool leading out into the bush, outdoor play areas for children, and a TV lounge with multiple games. Children of all ages are welcome here, and there is plenty to see and do for all the family together.

  • Thank you, we had an absolute wonderful time, and everything was well-planned and as described. Carla was crying on the day of our departure from Ants Nest, she didn’t want to go home and for it all to end, and when I asked how much longer she would want to stay, she responded “four weeks”

  • It was certainly a holiday of a lifetime for us and we loved every minute!! The standard and location of each accommodation was excellent, as was the variety of each different accommodation type. Our schedule was perfect and we managed to achieve everything on our to-do task list. Your documents were also really helpful, as were the driving directions. We all thank you for making this such a wonderful holiday. Happy to leave a review publicly if you point me the right way. Best Steve

  • Hi Lisa, We had a fabulous time thank you. The accommodation and other ideation were all terrific - that’s so much for your help. The apartment in Cape Town was particularly good - we would never have found that: Boschendal was great as well and game lodge was superb. Thanks again, Alistair
